FEB HATCH-ALONG THREAD ...COME JOIN US.... EVERYONE!

I think I will join in! I go into lockdown tomorrow with 19 EE and OE eggs. 4 are iffy but I left them JIC. I can't wait for these little ones to arrive! The lady who sold me the eggs had another member who posted chick pics on the other hatching thread and on her sales thread. There was a SILVER chick! And now that chick is turning a beautiful solid lavender! I just can't wait to see what I get... :D

My first batch is with 4 due on the 16th and 1 on the 17th. All 5 are from my Maran hen with an EE Roo, so they should be sex linked olive eggers if everything goes as intended. *claws and spurs crossed*

I posted on the wrong thread for hatching earlier, I think I finally found the right one! I am hatching 12 BCMs and 24 buff orps due to hatch on th 15th. So excited to have fellow hatchers! I had terrible luck with my last batch. I had 36 eggs only 15 were fertile and out of those 8 hatched and one died two days later bc I helped it... Hoping for a better hatch this time!

PUG....GOOD JOB and you did the riight thing all the way ! ? What kind is she?
Sometimes they can be in their and no sound or movement at all... Just hang in there
What day is it?
Rox today was day 22, it was my silkie eggs. My little Sugar Peeps is hanging in there, I did give her a few drops of water an hour ago. She seemed to like it. I am concerned that she is not standing- is this normal? She kind of scoots all around the box. It's been so many years since I've had hatchlings, and I've never had a silkie hatchling so I don't know what to really expect. Oh and I did try to candle the other 5 eggs. No movement or sound. They never pipped or anything. So I opened them and just got soooo upset! everyone was dead, shrink wrapped! It actually looked like 2 of them must have died on day 18 after lockdown or right before. The other 3 were all like Sugar Peeps, upside down-and all fully formed & had even absorbed the yolk sacs! Looks like they were just stuck & while I was helping save Sugar Peeps they died- I am telling you I am sick over it. When I saw how she was I should have just went on & opened up the shells in them to see if I could help them.... Let me know about how long it should take for my little Peeps to stand up on her own- my nerves can't take all this

I am thinking about leaving the eggs in the (unplugged) turner during lockdown this time anyone have any advice/opinions on this? My last hatch was so unsuccessful I really want to try something different.

This is my first incubator hatch. I am using egg cartons, same idea. It's much better for shipped eggs to stay fat end up. You should be fine with the turner, I just hear it is messier and would imagine a bit uncomfortable for the chick once it is out.

If you decide to swap for egg cartons be sure to cut the bottoms off (beter air flow to the egg) and trim down the tops so the chicks cam wiggle if they need to.

Good luck!

I have seen people do this but my thoughts are the newly hatched chicks could get hung up on the turner and the turner takes up so much room. You could transfer the eggs to an egg carton (bottoms cut out for air circulation) and there will be more room in the bator for the newly hatched chicks.

All of my eggs are Serama, but five of them are from a pullet who was with a tricolor mottled cockerel until about 10 days ago (I found him a new home) and then I put my little black silkied boy in with her. The color is what will be mysterious until hers are hatched. The other five should look like the two chicks I posted... exchequer down pattern (penguin looking black and white)
Well that will be mysterious~~If its silkie mix boy what will lit turn out like? Tiny and silkie do you think? Are there silkie Seramas? Oh i love when chicks look like tiny penquins!
YOU and Brook have such cute Seramas in your avatars .What is that color of yours called? I like the light colors
