Update on my 4 chickiedoodles.

So, my first 2 chickies that got the leg issues from the paper towel. The first chick ended up with a slipped tendon. This morning was day 2 for her. I couldn't get the leg to straighten out completely, and I didn't want to force it. So instead I exercised it quite often today and flexed it, in the mean time I started making her a little chick chair. Just a bit ago I was finally able to get the leg straight (without much effort) and I felt the tendon go back in place... I actually wasn't trying when it happed, I was just ever so lightly holding her leg and she pulled up on it (to try to take it back from me) and I felt it, and it was straight. Once I let go of it, it went right back to be tucked up by her, but I was able to straighten the leg easily after that, and she didn't seem too uncomfortable either. I splinted the leg, and strapped her in a chair. She's ticked, but at least she'll be able to do her most favorite activity all day... which is eat. She was always hanging out at the food dish. LOL.

Chick #2, that had the splayed legs. I banded them & it helped a TON. The chick hated it, and picked at it, and fought it... but eventually gave up. However, I think from her fighting the banding, she got a slipped tendon too. This one was MUCH easier to straighen as she hasn't been hobbling around on it for 2 days. She's splinted and in another chair!

Chick #3... Beautiful! Nice toes, nice legs, very perky & alert. Phew! Good chickie.

Chick #4 - the one that took 37 hours from pip to hatch, and ended up being quite small and weak. When I got up this morning I was pretty sure it was not going to last. She never got up, she would just chirp once in a while and had 1 stiff leg that just stuck straight out. I kept tucking it up under her but it didn't seem to help. She just didn't seem to have enough strength to do much at all but move in a circle on her bum. Just in case though, I banded her legs... & it has made a HUGE improvement. She's still small, but she can stand now, and even walk around a bit (though inhibited by the bands). We got her to drink a little electrolyte water. She still rests a lot, but it's looking much more promising, and I have hope for this little fighter. Slow to make the milestones, but she's making them.

There ya are... an update.

Oh, & congrats & good luck to all the others & their hatches!!

So you did a chair for your too? well great minds think alike!!! My daughter woke up this morning to see Lila in her chair for the 1st time LOL she calls her "princess Lila", said it looks like she's sitting in her throne!

I took her out of it this evening for a while, it does seem to be helping her b/c her legs are no longer striat out behind her- And Sugar Peeps, is now out her her boots and running around the brooder all by herself!
My 6 lav orp eggs are supposed to hatch today- nothing so far...

Looks like a boy to me...
Okay, this has nothing to do with hatching eggs, but here is my almost 7 week old chick, (almost pullet) Hope. She is half white leghorn, half production red. Do you think she is actually a she, or a boy? She still hasn't made any crowing sounds, but if I blow on her face, she makes the gesture of crowing. (does anyone else notice that with their chicks/ens?) lol

ruffled feathers!!!!

wattle shot.

(rushing over to see if I brought treats!!!)

Yup, I have 2 in chairs... UGH! They are so cute in their little thrones. We call them chickie highchairs. My #1 chick HATES her chair with a passion! Will not shush it. My teenage son keeps saying "Will you fix her!? Go on your chicken site & find out where the off switch is!!". LOL - There's nothing I can do buddy, sorry! And her tendon issue was quite a doozy & I think she's going to be in that chair for a while. I don't know how long it should take, or if I'm even doing it right, or if it will even work. I think the link said like 5 days? Not sure if I read it correctly. Chick #2 tolerates her chair. I don't think she'll be in it as long, so maybe after she's out of it, I'll move chick #1 into that chair... maybe it's more comfortable? No idea. Wow, ... she sure is noisy. She was louder than Beyonce during Super Bowl half time!
