I had one pip this morning and of course my humidity was in the 55% now I'm working hard to get it up hopefully he is not shrink wrapped in.

You're good. 55 is fine, you can get it up to 60 if you want..now having said this, I will finish reading posts... There are probably some same posts!

yes.

I go 60 to 62..then they aren't too wet, and drown when they pip. 70's are old school, unless you are doing ducks. )

NEMO is going to give me heart failure!!!!!!

So I have no generator right now because it broke Haven't lost power yet, but a lot of areas around me have & my eggs are on day 11 & 12

My only option if it does go out is to take the eggs out & put them under this chicken I have recently taken in.....

The chicken is from up the road, it has a messed up joint & hobbles on it....couldn't get off the cold ground & the bad foot is completely frostbitten & the other one is 1/2 frostbitten as well as the joint so sad - the old owner didn't have it in em to cull it, so they asked me - with the snow storm & all I haven't been able to put the poor thing down yet, but since it doesn't really move & seems comfortable in the other room, it will be my go to in the case of an outage.


next time I candle, I'll take pictures-> for those trying to keep themselves away from their eggs!

Here is a good site for humidity. Some really worry about the humidity during incubation. I personally do not keep it high at all. I keep it in the low 30's or even 20's. During lock down, I go the 60% range, or a bit higher, but not much. I usually have pretty good hatches. These barred rock I have had air cells clear up the sides..shipped eggs. You can wrap your incubator up with blankets or towels to hold in the heat. At night, my office gets really cold (very low 60's) and I have a homemade incubator........I just put a towel over it and it holds the heat great all night. Those little chicks are stronger and more resilient than you think they are!

I keep burning my self on the screw on the outside trying to get a good view of all the eggs. I think when I build my bator or at least a hatcher one I am going to put mirrors all over the place so I can see the eggs at all angles!!!

Hey guys not sure if you remember me since I posted several pages ago but now I'm back with a question. I have eggs under a broody and the weather the past few days has been awful! Cold temps, wind, and rain. Do you think this will ruin my hatch?

She should be fine if she stays on the eggs. We had some goofy hens that decided to go broody this winter on the days when our temps didn't get above 0*F (days on end) and they are able to keep the eggs warm enough.

So into my own eggs and how they are doing forgot to candle my hens choice
.Its now day 11....
The 2 i wanted most are the Gold laced Brahma and the Coronation Sussex
.Well the Sussex is a no go or no GROW as it were BOO

Suprisingly with shipped and cold didnt expect much... but all the rest ... 7 are doing fine!!!
10 days to go.

I'm in! Got cir 11 FBCM eggs and 11 solid White maran eggs in two incubators (a little giant, boo hiss, and a TX-7 ten-turn). Have candled twice. Hatch expected on Feb 16th. Killed two perfectly good embryos at day 7 because I SWORE I saw a blood ring. My TX-7 has always run hot (analog thermometers are showing cir 99-100 degrees, so how is this too hot, right? Anywho, historically my chicks hatch on Day 20. Yep, I know y'all are gonna say my bator is too hot, but the mercury thermometer don't lie, right? I'd trust a mercury therm over a digital therm any day.

So is there any harm in going on lock-down on Day 17, vs. 18? That's next Tues night.
