FEB HATCH-ALONG THREAD ...COME JOIN US.... EVERYONE!

First little hatch...d'uccle/serama cross. I keep sticking in eggs every few days, so I'll be hatching all month long, all d'uccle/serama cross, with a occassional silkie thrown in.

Awwww!! What a cutie!!! ^..^

I candled my 10 eggs last night (at 4 days) and I have 9 going strong, one that looks like it was fertile but has quit. 9 out of 10 is totally acceptable though, and I'm anxious to have the little guys hatch...why are the 21 days of incubation always the slowest three weeks EVER? LOL

Congrats to everyone with new fuzzy butts!!!

I just got home from a class I'm taking and sure enough my little Serama hatched. What a little loud mouth she is. As soon as she dries off I will get some pics and post. I also have a SFH egg pipped. I only have 3 in the bator so I am keeping my fingers crossed I get another. Lockdown on my Orp eggs tonight.
Hehehehe ^..^ I am always surprised at the volume the tiny little serama chicks can get to

I'll join! I'm planning to set black oegb (splash too if they lay anything) and serama eggs under a broody on the 6th! I've collected three black oegb and five serama eggs so far over the past three days and I'll also set whatever else I get between now and the set day. At the moment I have a small clutch of 6 serama eggs with one pip this morning! The first chick should be hatched by the end of today and I'd love to share pictures!

I've got a bunch more hatching right now, can't see them all because the window is fogged up. I hope I can tell who is who when they are ready to come out of the incubator. The Showgirls will be easy to figure out.

YAY! Hatching fever!

I just set 9 Serama eggs from my young pair that just produced the two babies pictured here...(Exchequer X Black parents), and from my other 7 1/2 month old pullet. Her chicks should be by a tricolor (white/black/gold) cockerel that was with her till very recently, but the last couple eggs could be sired by the black silkied Serama boy shes with now, so hers will be a surprise :D Good incubating and hatching energy to everyone!! ^..^ Mine will be due February 18th

CUTER THAN CUTE

Our first 2 eggs pipped 12 hours ago. One hatch, and the other has made NO progress. 12 hours... & nothing! UGH! Honestly, I need to get out of this house, but its FEET of SNOW outside! So all I do is watch the bator, check BYC, watch the bator, check BYC, make the kids lunch, check the bator... **vicious circle**

I did hear it chirp about 4-5 hours after pip... & I saw SLIGHT pip hole movement like 8-9 hours after pip, but it could have been my eyes playing tricks on me. Otherwise, nothing. Ya Ya I know... you all probably think I'm paranoid for nothing. My brain tells me that too... but my nerves don't care what my brain thinks, it's not listening. LOL.
Well 12 hours..they usually pip and often wait for some hours... is it thru do they have an air hole? Is he making it any bigger at all? If it gets toward 20 hours or so you might have to make a little move and helpo ut i would wait right now .. If you open them up on your own they veins may not have dried up insdie the memebrnae and they can bleed to death so its imperative that you go slow even when you want to help If time goes by and yo u do ..pick off chips of shell but not the membrane See how the other zipped around the egg.? chip the shell off around it from the air hole if you can and then wet the membrane with a wet rag dont get water by the hole where his nose is...
Then put it back in there wet rag around it loosly and wait see if he can get out now on its own. if not later get out and tear a tiny bit of membrane back if it looks dry and no blood no yellow yolk... then do a little more butt his you go SLOW...
if its not thru the membrane to air ..then make a tiny hole by the star crack . look for movement put back and wait ..see what happens. later you may have to chip a bit more off and seeif its alive by then,
Sometimes they are too weak t o survive coming out and die in there . Some inner malady usually heart lungs etc. Cracking out themself shows a strong healthy chick
If they dont often not alwaays its a foot or leg problem or sometimes heart lungs other problem
f i it died in the egg. its sad but probably wouldnt make it outside either too weak
GOOD LUCK!
Aftet they FIRST pip thru to air they HAVe to stop and wait a bit to get their lungs use to breathing air before they go farther. wh yit takes a while sometimes. ..
