FEB HATCH-ALONG THREAD ...COME JOIN US.... EVERYONE!

Yep! That's what I thought! Not a lot of moving then, huh? And it was a good hatch? Did you leave them in the carton through hatch?

Nope not much moving, except when I candled. Yes, I hatched in the carton as well and had a great hatch!! When the last two eggs remained, the chicks that had hatched knocked over the carton and one egg didn't hatch and I think it was because it was knocked over. I did an eggtopsy(sp) and it had obsorbed the viens and yolk but never pipped. So out of 7 eggs in the bator 6 hatched. The other 6 eggs I put under my broody hen and all of them hatched.

Can I join? Our eggs are coming in the mail, just shipped today.... we havent had chickens in a while, since we moved.. before we had Silkies I had hatched from shipped eggs.... this time we are getting SILKIE Ameraucanas!!

We built our incubator out of our 20 gallon long fishtank, and a lot of styrofoam... we took some pictures of it but Im not sure where to post them?

So I am on day 15, so lockdown on thursday, and possibly a hatch on sunday!

But for some reason whenever I hatch silkies they ALWAYS hatch on day 19. Just silkies. Whenever I hatch any other breed, they hatch right on time! So I don't know, I may just have some baby silkies on friday!

I'm anxious to see pics of your silkie babies- aren't these the catdance eggs?

That is great!! I am so ready to set more!!!

I just re-candled the two eggs I was not sure about. They are developing, with clear veining and little chicks. That means out of the 7 I set, 7 are developing great! I know how rare this is, and me, we'll, I'm shocked since this is my first time ever hatching. Beginner's luck. Next time I probably won't be so lucky. Hopefully all 7 will make it too lock down... I'm on day 11.

Hi & welcome! Glad you found us. Your bator sounds interesting too. I saw some silkie ameraucana eggs on ebay, wondered what the chicks would look like. Good luck w/ them.

K let me see if I can explain this right. I set the eggs small end down and leaned them all to the same side in the cups. When I would "turn" the eggs, I would just shift (lean) to the opposite side of the cup. And just did that back every time I "turned". Does that make sense? Oh let me try this I would take the eggs and put them all like this / in the carton cup, when turning, I would put them like this \. Lol
The 'turner' in my bator gently rocks the eggs back & forth- sort of what you are showing here. Then when I set my call duck eggs I had read from several ppl that raise ducks, the best hatch rates they've had came when they not only used a turner like mine, but they also 3 times per day hand turn. You sort of slowly twirl the egg while it's sitting in the turner. They said it seems to promote better more even veining & development. So I thought since I was doing it with the duck eggs, I would try it with the chicken eggs too. I won't know for sure if it's helping- BUT I did notice that the basque eggs I put in a few days b/4 the duck eggs show much more development in more eggs (12 out of 14) that previous batches of my chicken eggs. (all my eggs have been shipped) So far as just about everyone knows I've not had good luck with my hatches- so maybe this will help? I don't see where it would hurt anyway...
