I might end up getting a friend for Mini. I feel so bad that he is so lonely. There's another BYC member that raises silkies (howfunkyisurchicken aka: Nikki), and she's been helping me help Mini. Huge thanks to her! He doesn't look like he's knocking on death's door anymore (I didn't expect him to make it through the day yesterday, as he even started having trouble balancing and walking, and quite labored breathing like MoMo had). He doesn't look super great yet, still weak... but he is a runt, but the fact that he doesn't look any worse and is more active makes me hopeful again. Plus I haven't noticed any head flicking this morning, and he's been walking solidly.

What she had me do was take away the medicated chick starter, replace it with the non medicated. She thought that maybe since the banties are so much smaller he might have been having trouble with too much of the med, and it was blocking too much of his essential vitamins causing a deficiency (and likely the seizures in MoMo). I also gave him a boost of vitamin B1 yesterday (had to order the Poly Vi Sol and should have it today). I really think this has helped him.

Anything can happen yet, but if he continues to hang on for another day or two, and I feel better that he wont get another chick sick (if it was just a vitamin deficiency for the silkie chicks), I will probably get him a friend. Even though I hopefully have more hatching next weekend, I don't want him to have to wait that long. He's so lonely. If I can find some... Here in MI it's cold yet, and our local farm store isn't getting them in for at least another week or two yet.

Here's a picture I took of him this morning snuggling his teddy bear. He likes to sleep there, lay there, peck at teddy's fur, lol.

Did you put a mirror in with him? That helps a lot with the loneliness.

GOOD! :clap   So how's the babies?

All are doing excellent! The last one to hatch that I almost killed assisting is itty bitty, but spunky and loves to be around me and held...so cute!! I'm a tad worried about the chicks outside with the momma hen, with the cold coming. She sat on the ground yesterday during all the rain over her babies and looked like a wet rat...wind must have blown rain in cuz her pen has a roof. Her chicks were perfectly dry though.

Congrats on the new babies coming and fingers crossed for a great hatch!! Anything yet? Or are you staying away for real?

He's so cute! I hope he's gonna keep getting stronger & healthier! If you can find him a buddy I think it will help, it sure helped my little Peeps.
I too was worried about the med. feed. I cut mine in half w/ none med feed. Also my dad told me to mix in a little old fash. oatmeal flakes. He said that's what they used to feed chicks. Mine seem to love it.

Sounds like a good mama hen! So how many babies did she end up with? And how many did you have hatch inside? I'm worried about the weather too, poured rain last 2 days here. Was blowin sideways, my SHF chicks outside don't have sense enough to stay in the roost box, they looked like drowned rats! Mine is covered also, but w/ that much rain it's bound to get wet under there!
And yes I am staying away from the 'hatch bator' for real

I told DH I am not going to even look @ it, so he sneaks in and keeps saying nothing yet... GRRR he's worse than me! Hatch day should be Fri- but who knows?

Yes, he does have 2 mirrors actually (opened compact mirror). It's next to the teddy bear, you just can't see it in this picture. He likes to stand in front of that too... there are 2 more friends for him there! They just aren't as warm and soft as teddy is.
