FEB HATCH-ALONG THREAD ...COME JOIN US.... EVERYONE!

I'm not sure why it happens. Perhaps they push out of the shell too quickly, or maybe they had a large yolk and not enough room for it. Who knows! I did remove the other chicks in the hatcher while mine dried off, but once he was fluffy there was no picking. If you have problems you might try putting blue kote on it?
Thank you!!! I had another hatch in the middle of the night with a hernia (I guess), too!! Why does it happen? I'm confused. I had one hatch in between the two that is fine. The one that hatched in the wee hours (Rocky) looks better than the other one. She is strong, jumping over the other eggs, & chirping away. No weakness noted at all. Emma is getting stronger & she is eating chick start & continues to drink electrolytes. I think she's doing good, but I'm going to work on cleansing the area today. My main concern is that the other chicks will peck at it & make it bleed :(

Here are some better pics from today. Emma's is a bit larger than Rocky's

Well the surviving eggs from the incubator incident (bulb burned out temp down to 74*, cold eggs) hatched a day or so late. Of the 17 in there 10 hatched. Of mrheinz eggs - I got 1 OE (another pipped, started to zip but died), 2 RC RIR, 2 Speckled Sussex, 1 Bjarther Icelandic (in a different incubator however), and 1 bantam Langshan. None of the Ameraucanas or Welsummers even pipped (4 eggs total). Of my own eggs, I hatched 3 EE/OEs and my 1st Icelandic from my flock (3 of my EEs didnt pip)

mrheinz' bjarthur Icelandic, 2 RIR, 1 OE (black in front), 1 bantam Langshan (black in back) and 2 Speckled Sussex (1 chipmunk, 1 light)

The 2 Speckled Sussex

2 Icelandics (dark one is bjarthurs and chipmunk is our own)

Our 3 EE/OE and 1 Icelandic - 2 of the EE/OE look like they will be rumpless (hens covered by a splash rumpless Araucana)

I am so happy that I got anything out of those eggs, I didn't think they would make it.
They are beautiful!!!! Congrats!!!!

That's great!!! Those lil chicks sure wanted to see their bator momma, didn't let a little thing like getting cool stop them!!

I will take some photos of Wobble soon, they are all napping right now

I'll take some of Wobble & Krip next to each other & also w/ the reg size hatch mate of Krip's as well
Would love to see pictures of Wobble & Krip

Glad that you are able to get them the care they need!

::Krip & Wobble update::
The light one is a reg sized chick, hatch mate of Krip, from Jan hatch. Krip my black & white & little Wobble. Krip has her joint pad off for a while for some breathing time. Wobble is continuing w/ her walking & started drinking & nibbling food on her own!

As you can see here - Krip's foot is kind of twisted & Wobble standing nice & tall! I have high hopes for these 2 w/ their progress so far.

It looks really good! Keep it up. :)

Okay so I will head over to the injury section in a day - buttttt I have a chick one of the ones that hatched earlier today
& it's legs pop out of it's joints & cant walk because of it?????? I am going to medical tape them up to keep them in place - do yall think that will solve the problem so it wont continue to happen as it grows??

anyone else w/ this issue
I can legit move them back into place

so I wrapped Little Wobble's legs & also attached the legs closer together as well - Oh man I hope everything works out, I don't want to have to put it down

Still waiting on 2 JB eggs & 2EE eggs to do something

So after all my worrying, my broody Snowflake hatched out all seven eggs. Four Showgirls and 3 Marans. 100% hatch. Woo hoo. Here they are!

Thanks for all the advice and support. Happy Hatching.
