I'm having the same problem...when I candle I never see any veining, or a dark spot. BUT I can very easily see an air sac and a dark mass in the egg, the eggs don't look porous at all. I have tried to candle at different stages, I know I'm not seeing a blood ring. My egg shells are thick and solid. I don't give a lot of extra calicum because of all the goodies I give my girls. The only time I give oyster is if I notice the egg shells are becoming to thin.

So if I am seeing an air sac-very nice ones, then a dark mass in the shell then is it possible I have a hatchling to come? I only have a couple of white-light colored eggs. The rest are a very pretty brown and green, I usually don't see anything at all in those. I do have a small led flashlight from tsc.

I am just so anxious about my broodies eggs! I am so ready to see any babies! I am crossing my fingers all goes well this weekend. This is worse than waiting to give birth to my daughter!!

Mine arethe same ...i have had pretty many hatches but all brown eggs.

I rarely have seen a vein maybe twice I just go by the size of the dark black blob in there. At day 17 it should take up all the egg or you may see a little air sac at the end.(hopefully the RIGHT end.LOL ) those kind are always my hatchers GOOD LUCK to you!

Turns out there are two that aren't even close to fluffy yet - should I leave them in there?

Yes leave them in there so they have time to fluff out.

I go into lockdown tonight but I already have 2 new chicks!! These little cuties were picked up from the farm store today.

The little brown one is an ISA Brown, and the other is a California Grey Leghorn (white leghorn). Still planning on getting an Amber Link and a Light Brahma.

My incubator chicks are due to hatch this weekend! EEK!!

Turns out there are two that aren't even close to fluffy yet - should I leave them in there?

You are using the Brinsea incubator right? It seems to hold the humidity very well. My chicks wouldn't dry completely & fluff until I took the out & put them in the brooder. I ended up leaving them in there for a few hours to rest & get about as dry as they were going to get, but then took them out. Once they were under the heat lamp it finished up their drying rather quickly.

Help please!

It's day 21. All chicks have hatched except for one. This chick was developing, but right now they're are no pips. The other chicks are super squished in my tiny incubator - there's 6. So should I just go ahead and take those chicks (and egg) out? They are almost fully fluffy. I'm worried about them injuring themselves since they keep moving and there's no room.

I would still take out all the chicks & then close the bator up ASAP, leaving the egg in there still
&if by this time tomorrow if there still isnt any star crack or pipping or zipping then I would make a hole in the air sac end to look for proof-of-life. That last part is my opinion, but the first part I think is best for the chicks - don't risk the health of your hatched chicks over one egg that you don't know for sure about.

It's hatch day in our home. We've got 6 of 22 out of their shells (some aren't due for another day or so). Our first hatched last night after dinner and we've got a few more with pip's in the shells. One of the 6 had to be assisted because it was taking so long, it was getting dried to the shell. I just don't have high hopes for "O" - she's not looking good like the other 5.....soon to be 6 - I literally have "J" half-way out of the shell at the moment.

Here are my first 5. They are all barnyard mixes - BO & BR roo's over RIR, BR, EE, BSL.....

They are all precious of course, but that first and third one steal my heart!!

Well today is filled with disappointment on my end. I just candled everyone and only saw growth in 12/48 eggs I set. 20/48 were checking rooster fertility so that's no big deal, but 3/9 LOCAL bantam cochin eggs are fertile and NONE of the bantam polish are fertile. Aren't people supposed to check their hens for fertility BEFORE they sell? Really disappointing but hoping the growers do ok. I'll be a lot more hands off to give them the best chance. Really hoping the 4 of my 13 shipped bantam BR eggs hatch and that I at least get one pullet out of them

I have felt this same disappointment- many time. Sometimes with the shipped eggs it's not a mater of being infertile, I have found this with eggs I've had shipped to me. Either way isn't upsetting & waste of money & time

Oh man, I love your girl with the yellow on.. She reminds me of my very first EE. I have some EE's in right now, and am so hoping I get one like her again. I've had some pretty blue's, and some white with black, and different ones, but I want another one that will be the chipmunk striped one that ends up like your girl here.

I posted this question earlier, copied and pasted so I would have to rewrite it. I would still like to know the answer. I'm fixing to set some eggs in a day or two so I'm curious. Thanks!

Yes, I don't always see the veining- but by day 18 when I candle if I see most of the egg dark with just aircell then it goes to lockdown

I personally keep my temp around the hight 20's to low 30's, then up to 60/62% humidity for lock down. I have a still air, so that's the reason for the lower humidity showing on the temp ~ those still airs hold the humidity like no other.
