FEB HATCH-ALONG THREAD ...COME JOIN US.... EVERYONE!

Congrats to all the beautiful new babies. I just got out my husbands tactical LED light and tried the home made bator again.

I seem to have *something* going on in 10 now. (I candled after posting a min ago) I am 90% sure 2 of those 10 are quitters.

Arkansas I lost more of your eggs than anything, and yes, a person lost their job over the handling....I will be getting the agreed package from my end in the mail monday...at least I know my stuff to you cant break. A lot of the eggs I have in there seem completely infertile too (including yours Ark) as a matter of fact, the only one of your eggs you mailed me that made it to this point in the game is this tiny little bantam egg.....which makes me want to bawl my eyes out bc I wanted those Basque so bad. I totally got screwed this go around. *sigh* Are you still wanting to get the turner?

I know my bator my husband made is working fine. The temp stays more constant on it than in the two LGs bc the cooler is so secure and snug fitting, I am just throwing a hissy fit. I hate losing anything, but this was a VERY expensive and VERY sad kick to the gut. I just wanna cry all over again.

Ethan, to me, those eggs look completely infertile to me. I hope you didnt pay too much for them (((hugs)))

CONGRATS TO ALL!!

Soo I created a normal March thread

Gap: yes I would still like the turner, like I stated before I've learned some new techniques for shipping. I've checked for fertility and to me it seems like the majority of my eggs are fertile, but I know that some are not. I can put a lot more of the basque in this other round if you would like.

I am truly sorry for the headache and heartache you have been dealt, I would feel the very same. I hope to be getting more basque in a few months, I hope I can get hens so I don't have to wait on them to get old enough for laying. I am going to be switching my birds around, adding to them, and getting some pures as well.

Thanks to all for the advise! I am so glad I've found this thread (thanks Gap!

That one tiny little banty egg is holding on though! I would love to see what it came from to see how spunky it will probably be after surviving so much!!

I will be taking the turner out Sunday when I go into lockdown (OH MY GAWD DID I JUST SAY THAT!!! EEEEEK!!!) and will be able to mail to you monday with your bows and stuff.

They are all precious of course, but that first and third one steal my heart!!

Are you opening an incubator to take the hatched ones out? I have 12 in my incubator that started hatching late last night, still have 14 eggs left that are peeping and was told not to open the incubator during lock down. I have heard that the chicks are ok in the incubator for two days but i'm afraid to leave them in there too long.

i usally pull mine when the cant get any dryer in the bator but some peeps might say not to and let them finish fluffing out in the brooder

Ok so I need to be concentrating on the big #s? Because I just checked my bator the temp on both is 99-100, the humidity for the big # is low 50's. On the humidity reader the little numbers for the high is 90% low is 30%? The high and low haven't really changed that much...so am I good now?

I've had the hydro in for almost 24hrs, the other themometer has been in from day one, I've had my bator going for 2 days now. I have water in the bottom, both plugs out. So what ya think?

i missed it, what kind of incubator did you end up going with? I have the same thermometer/hydrometer in one of my 2 LGs, and i keep mine currently between 99-102 at all times. The hydrometer reads below 50% almost always, but I will raise it during lockdown. The incubator with that set up has the highest number of happy eggs chugging along. I found out though, that EVERYONE has different opinions on the humidity, but all pretty much agree on temp. See how this hatch goes, and take notes. Seriously, by 3 sets in now I feel like I know exactly what works for my room with my natural humidity....just waiting til first hatch to feel comfortable with a lockdown humidity number now.

ETA: I hear that while eggs may develop at 95* and seem fine when in the egg, they can become deformed during development for some reason with lower temps...and of course higher temps can just kill them.

No the eggs were not shipped I got them from a lady about 30 minutes away so I picked them up. My temp stayed at 100
