FEB HATCH-ALONG THREAD ...COME JOIN US.... EVERYONE!

I have a little giant from tsc. I don't know what else to do with the high/low readings? They have hardly changed at all, but the regular humidity reading (big number) says anywhere from low 40-50%. My low reading (little #) is always somewhere in the 30's, my high (small #) is 90's.

My temps have held steady, 99.5-100 on both meters. So what am I doing wrong??

The high low numbers are what has happened over the last 24 hours. Every day it will change until it becomes stable and you won't see that big of a difference. Worry more about the BIG numbers. 50's are a little high for days 1-18. After you set your eggs you want to candle and mark where the air cell is on the shell. On day 14 do the same thing and then on day 18 do it again. As long as your air cells look like this picture you are doing good:

If the air cell is too big then you need to increase the humidity. If it is to small then you need to decrease the humidity.

We're up to 14 chicks - and 3 more eggs still in the incubator that were due today. :) The one I was most worried about is doing much better after I gave her a warm bath last night. She's got very tiny wings - but I think her mother must be my "Midge" because when I got her, she had tiny wings too - now she's a beautiful EE. You can tell my BO roo is the head honcho in the coop and the BR is just second fiddle to him.

4 days is still early. You may have some that are just taking their time to get started.

I needed just that little nudge of hope today....

I went outside and changed the bedding in the coop and got this face from my almost 22 week old BR lady...

and my day got a little better.

I did talk to the lady about the eggs they were free she gave them to me for my first hatch which was really nice. She just had 2 silkies hatch a few days ago so I'm not sure what happened

So should I take the water out of the bator then add water again for lockdown? I just can't get the high/low #'s to go up or down...they are still saying same #'s. But the big # on the humidity meter is still saying 50-57%.

I quess I will try that and see what happens..
I have one almost just like your's- don't worry about the small numbers. They will only change if you have a temp or humidity spike or rapid drop, that's why they are not really changing, so don't worry bout them. As long as the big number is within the right range that's all you need to be concerned with. I know it's a little confusing at first, but you'll get the hang of it

And no you don't remove water for lockdown, just add to what you have to raise humidity.
