FEB HATCH-ALONG THREAD ...COME JOIN US.... EVERYONE!

OK so now that I'm caught up on post from everyone-
I have a new CHICK!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yep the chick in the big bator was hatched when I got up this morning. I put it in a shoebox on a heating pad to dry- was afraid it would get all caught up in the turner in the bator. It's doing GREAT! and there are 7 more eggs in the small bator that are pipped! Only 3 left that have not pipped-

Good morning!!!

It is day SIXTEEN!!!!!!! OMG!!!!!!! (yes, it gets worse with me from here....at least I warned you people!!)

I am taking the kids to a big museum we have here in Atlanta today for 2 reasons....1.) it's rainy and nasty and they are bored after being out of school all week, and 2.) so Pug doesnt tie me to a tree by the end of the day and I stay OUT of my incubator!!! (I swear at this time I feel like opening it up every 5 mins and saying "you guys good? need anything? warm enough for ya? wanna snack?? wanna just come on out?? COME ON OUT!!!")....yeah...I may need some time away today!!

I know already I will come home to like 100 of ya'll with new baby chicks so an early CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Hope you all have an awesome Friday!! Be sure to drink lots of wine and beer before coming on here for the next 5 days....you'll want it with me around! HA!!!

You have to excuse me, this is my first time....and by what I recall, I am pretty sure already is more exciting that some other "first times" i can remember in my life! HAHAHA!! Thank you Thank you, I'll be here all night!

I'll even let you help yourself to some of the wine. I expect them to start some hatchin'action tomorrow into Sunday. Please Please Please, healthy babies!

So after hatching non-stop for 8 months now I always dread cleaning the hatchers because of all the mess. The last hatch I did I lined the bottom of the bator with paper towels and then just set it up like normal. When it came time to clean it yesterday I just took everything out, lifted the paper towel out and voila, no mess to scrub out. All the poop and shells came up with the paper towel. It took me like 5 minutes to clean. Unbelievable that it took me so long to come up with such a simple idea.

Thanks to you and brooks both on what a star crack is! So I assume that is a good thing, right?

The pip is the first little crack you see on the shell of the egg.

Checked on the eggies and all is good! Temp is holding right at 100, humidity is 45-50%. I'm fixing to go turn them. I am so excited!! I am dying to go outside and see Alice's chicks have hatched. We are frozen solid! I'm soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ready for Spring!! I will take pics if I have any babies out there, I'm going to be so bummed if we don't get chicks this weekend. I will keep you all posted.

Well now you see why its so addicting..once you start cant stop! EXCITING....YOU better take a big shot of something day 20 b/c the excitment then is truly overload.(Some times pips that day too!)

Woke up to a little black chick from the star pip i saw last night
A little dissapointed its not a LO but one of my mixed guys
So day 20 ....Tonite im expecting a few more pips at least!
HOpe i get them as the other eggs from WEd... just that one guy

I've heard of that backfiring on some people, as the paper towels can wick up the moisture from the hatching chicks and dry them out.

Gapeach I have a sultan (my avatar <3) and they are such funny little birds! I actually just ordered 4 chicks from the feed store to join the eggs that are hatching in a few weeks
