February 2017 Hatch-a-long

I just received my hatching egg order for the Black Australorp hatching eggs today. One egg was broken, and one is a pretty skinny one that I won't set. So, I will be setting 14 eggs in the incubator tomorrow. I will not be setting any of my own flocks eggs this time, just these Black ones.

Welcome. Beautiful boy in your avatar. What is he?

I got the combo pack, hygrometer and thermometer, for $11.99. They are on sale now for $8.39 for the set. Or, you can just get the hygrometer for $5.99 regular price and it's on sale now for $4.19.

I insisted on asking a lot of questions about the reliability, and the manager came out and told me he uses them for his reptiles and that they work very well. I have used them for all my hatches, and it's been helpful. I like having a second thermometer. That way, if I move some chicks to the brooder, I can put one there.

Thank you for the great info. I won a $50.00 Amazon gift card a while back, if I can find the same one with amazon prime, I might get it there since it has free shipping and a gift card is not money out of my own pocket.

@GardenWren
I put my eggs into lockdown tonight. On pins and needles!!! Did a quick candle and all seemed to be well. This is the part I've had horrid luck at. Keeping all my finger, toes, and claws crossed that my new Brinsea 20 EX does its job and I have a great hatching outcome. Come on babies...

I will
I will definitely let you know how it goes. My wife was mad about me not using her Amazon Prime account but quickly realized Incubator Warehouse was still cheaper. So moral of the story is dont procrastinate like I did and wait till the last minute.

Yep. I just ordered another 1588 - totally worth the investment in my opinion. I told my husband, no candy or flowers this Valentine's - but how about a Hovabator!?!? He was on board. I also used Incubator Warehouse. I guess there will be two reviews on this thread in the next week or so!

I noticed yesterday that my gold laced bantam cochin has figured out how to mount the Marans girls. Grrr. So I took the only four nice dark eggs that I had on the counter and set them in the incubator. Fingers crossed they have the Marans daddy and not the cochins. I also did round two of candling the other eggs this morning. Everyone is developing nicely. The hygrometer says 16% but the air cells look right on target so I'm not messing with them. My RIR eggs had a lot of water in them despite dry incubating last time, so I'll just let it be.

So, I have 10 Marans, 4 Marans x RIR, and 3 Marans x BR still going strong. Next week my shipped chicks arrive so I'll have 49 chicks to deal with if everyone makes it. How am I going to explain this to my husband? lol

He is a Splash Australorp. I also have a Splash Australorp hen and 3 Blue Australorp hens. I hatched him out in April 2016, and he came from the same breeder that I got the eggs for this time. I got them from his Black pen this time, because I need some of the blacks now.
I had no idea they come in Splash. Is he show quality?
