February 2023 hatch-a-long

Pics
I think you're doing stuff fine 🫠 Just don't worry too much, and I think you'll be fine. Remember, if exploding eggs are all you think about, it is most likely that one of your eggs will explode. All of my eggs are local. Good fortune. How many days to hatch? What is your hatch day?
Great advice! I’m a worrier and impatient. Hatching eggs will be a good exercise in patience.😂 Hatch day is 2/10 I believe. I set them the morning of 1/20.

Yes indeed. I have to exercise patience too, telling myself, "don't candle till day 14, you're going to kill the chick!" Try not to worry too much, think, "All of the eggs will be fine, they're going to all hatch," even if not all of them hatch.

Ok. Since we've got every problem resolved, I would like one of you to make a list of the people that are participating in the hatch-along. I can't keep track of how many are participating, because I just told myself yesterday that there were 4 people participating but I looked again and I found that there were MORE than 4! So whoever can make me a list within 2 days will get a picture of my chicken Samantha who lays me a brown egg every morning and is black and white and is very cute and clucks very high-pitched. Thank y'all for helping me with my hatch and good fortune!

I just noticed I haven't gotten any notifications from this thread so looked in and had like 5-6 pages to read. Lol

My eggs are day 9. I haven't peeked since day 6 which is a long time for me since I normally candle every day. Lol. I will peek tonight. All 11 we're going strong last I looked.

My thoughts process on candling is a broody will be off a nest from 10 min to 90 min every day. Me taking a few to candle isn't any different. I haven't had an issue yet from candling daily. But everyone needs to do what they are comfortable with

So I candled one of the shipped eggs today. A legbar. These have been gently tilted upright side to side 5x a day. There were veins and a large dot towards the top of the egg.:ya The air cell is still pretty small. I just assume the embryo is near the top of the egg due to the egg positioned upright in the incubator. Hopefully it will work out by hatch day. The local eggs seemed to be developing closer to the middle of the egg. Assumed because these are on their sides.

Yay! Just don't worry too much, and you'll be JUST fine!

My purchased eggs shipped yesterday. I'm getting 2-3 eggs per day from my 5 hens, and naturally the two I'd prefer to hatch from are the two who are still on winter vacation. Oh, well. That's just the way things go sometimes. If all goes well, I should be setting eggs early Saturday morning.
We just set our eggs today at 8 PM so we will be close to your hatching schedule as well. We sat 57 eggs we have a GQF sportsman 1502. It’s our very first time so much to learn! We had another farm give us 22 eggs of barnyard mix. And we had 35 eggs of white and brown leghorns and Easter Eggers. Our black copper marans are on vacation to perhaps next time. 🙏🏻🐣
