Yay, another chick, Maria, just hatched! I think she is going to be brown, like Petunia. The chicks are very clumsy when they are just hatched. I heard that before, but I didn't think they would be trying to preen themselves and fall on their butts.

How many left to hatch?

Bad news with momma hen, she keeps kicking the last two eggs outta the nest and leaving them there so I took them and they are now in the incubator. Only problem is this incubator wasnt pricey and none of the chicks survive the last few days of incubation, but i feel this is the only way. ( What i mean with the incubator is they survive up until day 17/18, after that they die for some reason. ) I keep the temperature between 37.8 - 38.1 °C or 100.5 °F. on the last few days.

Eggtopsy complete. I was correct. Maran did not develop at all. Maybe one or two days of development. Svart hona died I would say approx 3 days ago judging by what I saw with my limited knowledge. Glad I listened to my logical side on this.

My older hen whent broody, and she is not able to handle brooding eggs as well, so I want to break her, but its just easier to give her eggs and just sell the the chicks later. plus, chicks!

Four brown eggs, two green, I got these eggs from a family member so who knows what I will get! (I may keep one if she really catch my eye, females only!) set date. Feb/4/23 at 2:45 pm

May I have some extra eyes and thoughts on our two “questionable” eggs? I’m assuming they both died during development but am holding out a teensy bit of hope.

this is the first one, incubated with the 11 others (all of which have movement when candled and are in lockdown now). I’ll post the second one in the next comment

ETA: agree with the two responses about this first one so far. There does appear to be a possible faint blood ring and it’s not nearly where it should be for day 19. The second egg in the next post is more likely so will be keeping an eye on it! Thank you for the second eyes!

This is the second one and my only survivor in the super cheap “back up” incubator that the 4 eggs my students didn’t pick were banished to. It had movement this morning but it was incredibly slight and I’m second guessing myself. It went in the incubator 3 days after the main batch so should be about day 16? Thoughts?
