February 2023 hatch-a-long

I checked the eggs and they all look pretty good. There is one that I’m not 100% sure about. There is veins and the rest of the egg looks ok, just can’t really see an eye or anything like I can the other eggs. I’m gonna give it a couple more days and see what happens. I had one that wasn’t fertilized so took that one out. So down to 14 Cemani eggs and 5 Cochins.

#10 yellow-I thought was going to be another NN, she seems normal necked, or at least not as NN as the other chick. EE
#11 brown. EE maybe a rooster...
They are still in incubator to dry off.
One egg left in this group,

I am locking down 3 more tomorrow, (I think.)

Congrats! Good luck on the three!

Waking up this morning was like waking up on Christmas morning! Y'all except look what the incubator fairy brought me!! This is Dennis Rodman. (Or Denise if he's a she) IMG_20230212_103310387.jpg IMG_20230212_103243708.jpg I do not have any black skin silkies or anything black skinned for that matter other than my fibro olive eggers that are 4 wks old. I only have silkie crosses. But I guess the recessive genes come out when you breed a silkie x to a silkie x. This guy is beautiful!! I also have another silkie chick that hatched but he's solid fibro! Black feathers and skin. This is so exciting and accidental at best. Can't wait to see what this guy look like full grown will be interesting since momma looks like a golden silkie mutt with a bad mullet and daddy looks like a BBR OEGB with 5 toes.

Congrats!

Lockdown!!! 🙊🙊🙊
I had to separate the eggs that are due on Thursday (11 silkies and 2 Australorps) from the others. I hope it works well.
I will have to open the incubator to turn the other eggs and - I'm not even trying to pretend - I'm sure I will candle the ready ones, can't fight it 🙈🙈

Chicken math is really taking hold right now lol I just hatched 9 chicks, now the next 10 eggs are going into lockdown. Gonna have Valentine’s babies! Fingers crossed for the 5 colored eggs 🤞 they’re the only ones left out of 15 shipped. The other 5 are more barnyard mix eggs. I’m already thinking about setting more eggs so they hatch on my son’s birthday next month 🤦‍♀️ good thing I have two big coops, and no problem eating roosters…
