So, my birthday's in Feb and all I asked for was eggs ;) I found out I'll have a batch of lemon cuckoo orpingtons, indian runner ducks, and cuckoo marans to hatch this month! I'm so very very excited!
Lemon Cuckoo? Is that the same thing as Mille Fleur? Sounds interesting. I absolutely love my Orpingtons

Add 18 more to that 6! I just found 2 broody chocolate bantam orpingtons and a broody ohiki pullet all piled together. Oops...Guess that's what 3 days worth of injury and inability to pick up eggs gets me.

They are just darling! I have a chocolate cuckoo orpington now and I just love her to pieces (Betty) - when I saw the lemons, I just couldn't refuse. I mean, it's hard to get me to refuse chickens in the first place, but you know...

My son's "breed of choice" is Golden Cuckoo Marans. Kind of like a cross between lemon cuckoo and chocolate cuckoo. Light head, dark tail. He is so excited! Needless to say, I need to get this incubator going right before putting rare eggs into it! I'm really hoping this test hatch works!

Did a Day 8 candling today and I discarded two (one clear and one ring o' death), and of the 7 that's left there's 3 moving (maybe 4) that have definite occupants. The other eggs can ride a bit more in the incubator until they are definitive "yes" or "no" eggs. A long time to Feb 4, Hatch Day....

The barely 3 lb chocolate orpington pancaked on 21 eggs! She has a part time ohiki helper who I believe will be more serious tomorrow since today is the first day she has thought about sitting while the orp has been thinking about it for 3 days now.
