Thanks @minihorse927 the fertility is okay not great this go around he is a young boy who is having trouble with his aim. So hopefully I will get something from these. The fertility goes up a little each batch so finger crossed the next batch will rock.

I have 22 duck eggs with about half being test eggs in the bator, due the last week of feb!
Did you send a PM to join???

I don't know what is going on.... I lost the first 25 eggs due to low fertility and a power outage so I set another batch and low and behold the power goes out for another 6hours. luckily I was home the entire time as everyone was getting switched to the new power meters and someone had to be home. When they switched everyone's back on our it blew a transformer and ta da 6 hours later they finally fixed the problem. Sunday I shall know if this batch is done for or not. I did manage to keep the incubator at 85 the entire time so here is hoping.

Sorry about ranting we have not had a power outage that lasted more than an hour in years then in under five days we have two GRRRR.

Mom has established a clear No Mop Zone around her nest box. Haven't been able to catch her off of the nest to do an egg count yet today. Hoping she's decided 10 is enough.

Dad looks somewhat forlorn that his mate will no longer join him in the kitchen. He stole cat food and bathed in the cats' water dish alone. He doesn't seem sure of what to do with himself...

Aww poor thing

What kind of ducks are you hatching?

Lots of mixes, we don't have breeding pens. There are mallard, American blacks, Cayuga, rouen, buff and buff runner, it will be a toss up I have no idea what I will end up with. I would really love a crested, even if its one!!! Oh and Pekin, forgot the pekin :)

Mom was off the nest for a few minutes, so I grabbed a light and candled the eggs for quality (really too early to look for anything else). Found one with a 2" hairline crack that was nearly impossible to see with the naked eye. So I bade farewell to egg #4. Potential for funky broken egg stinking up the house averted. Back down to 10.....

What a beautiful duck...what kind is that? Male pic?

want to hear something funny.... Saw an ad on CL for green and blue eating eggs, ad said free range so I thought what the heck, emailed her and ask if they were fertile, she emailed back and said she didn't know, she refrigerated right away so I had nothing to worry about. Got back to her and told her I wanted them fertile and would be willing to pay a bit extra for them (she was charging 3 bucks a dozen) I gave her my cell number and thought its worth a shot...

An hour later or so she texted me and she had opened up three and two were fertile so we decided on a price, $6 a dozen. She going to save me all her eggs until next Friday, Were shooting for three dozen... long story short, in our texting and yapping we finally realized we knew each other! I had sold her two separate hatchings of day old chicks I had incubated! These hens that are laying these eggs are the ones I sold her! The rooster she has is one she got here too so I am basically re-populating my colored egg layers with my own flock but from another small farm lol

I had already decided my new incubator is to be bought tomorrow and had planned on setting another batch to test it... yay me!
