Crazy couple of weeks around here, good, bad, and busy--new puppy, back in school full time, and an ice shelf on the roof has caused water damage to the rooms across the front half of our second floor. Ugh. So this morning I realized tomorrow the girl needs v day cards for school and OMG, I have eggs that are supposed to be in lock down.

I weighed and candled everything one last time when I took out the rails and foam. The numbers look pretty close to 13% and I think that I only lost the two so far. One LA was infertile and one of the mix eggs had the ring of death. So I have 15 left. Crossing my fingers now.

Tried to get the bully hen back out into the flock last week and she just fights with the others as soon as she gets a chance. She lays just about every day and is otherwise healthy and sweet to us so I would hate to lose her. She is in the big brooder though so I have to figure something out for these new fluffers....and quickly!

Never a dull moment, I tell ya.

Wow I think you can breathe for a minute. Good luck on the hatch and new puppy. Sorry to hear about the house.

They are each so unique! I guess that's what I get from a "barnyard mix"!
Number three has crooked toes and splayed legs... It's not loving the shoes and bandaid! I checked his legs and replaced the bandaid with a slimmer version (the first was getting stuck on his down). They weren't ready yet. How long should I keep the shoes and bandaid on?
Aww they are so sweet, my little silkie had splayed leg I checked its legs everyday, replaced the brace and after a week and a half it's little legs were fixed.

Been super busy and finally had a chance to candle the Marans eggs (Day 15). Day 7 showed 4 definite good eggs out of 14. Today showed just 2 and a couple of blood rings. Pooh! We'll see what happens. Lockdown is on Sunday.

Hope things mellow out for you a little ...at least it is Friday!

So very cute! Congrats! Take the braces off each day and assess the chick's progress. Make sure they are getting enough food and water as they can't get around the brooder like the other chicks!

So, I am trying a hatch in the cabinet this time...first time. I have had the humidity pump working away. I can't get the humidity to get over 59% and this am there was a huge puddle on the floor in front of the cabinet because the humidity pump filled the water well and keeps pumping away since I have the humidity set for 65% it thinks it needs some more water.

And there is some chirping in there already...(Probably the result of my 1/2 degree increase on the incubation) Due date is tomorrow...Unfortunatley, this one will be tough to watch because I put covers on the trays so no on chick falls from the shelves.

Debating firing up the hovabator bc i know i can get the humidity up in there but I don't have enough space for all the eggs in there. Just have too many in lockdown this round.
