I am wondering the same thing! I am my Eco 2o and I hatched last time in egg cartons but I also wasn't using the egg racks. Could I hatch in the racks? I feel like I should probably but them in the egg cartons again or lay them on their sides. Hmmm I have a full bator so I need to use egg cartons or racks.

I have a Brinsea Mini Advance and my manual says to take the rack out of the incubator on day 18, so I did. Today is hatch day for me and this is my first hatch ever!
I also put down some paper towels to make clean-up easier and so the surface isn't so slippery for the babies when they try to stand up. Glad I did b/c my first one hatched today and I noticed that it helped.

Good luck!
First hatchling at one hour old!

ADozenGirlz - I love the name... Soupy, cute! Your pics. are great! Cant wait to see the rest, you all are getting me soooo excited, my wont hatch til the 27th...

Cute picture.

Looks like none of the silkie eggs are fertile yet. Must still be too cold for him to get going. I do have another batch im going to put in the incubator, since I thought I seen him mating. Oh well, its still winter.

On the other hand, all of my younger cockerels hatched in september have started mating with the girls.

Doh, my humidity fell down to 41 today. When I left for school in the morning it was at 61, that was at 8.30. I got home about 30 minutes ago and it was at 41 (actually 45 since it is off -4). I hurried up and filled my sponges again, they were pretty dry and threw them back in as quickly as I could. It is at 50 right now and rising, do you think they are alright? I hope I didn't dry any out

No pips yet, and still no peeping (yes I still put my ear it just incase I can hear a baby peep... still can't hear anything LOL)

I have an eco 20 as well. My very first hatch was ended 2 weeks ago and I got 12 out of 16! I tried the egg carton at first but it was just not enough room and the humidity was all over the place...I really wanted to do the carton but ended up just laying them down after taking the racks out and it all turned out pretty well! I would think the racks would work...the eggs won't be quite as stable as in a carton but they certainly would be more stable than laying down! Although it might be hard for the babies to get over them??? Let me know if you do this, I'm curious if it will work...sitting here waiting for the mail lady to bring me my eggs...

Here I am again with a question. I read alot here about having humidity at 50%-70%. When I did that none of them made it two hatch tries in a row and someone suggested a dryer hatch - 30%. Which is what I have been doing. Is there a "better" way one way or another??
