I had orginially read the same thing about humidity being high 55-65% and upping to 80-85% for lockdown, then a few BYC members suggested the dry hatch method to me also. So I did some more reading and found a diagram that shows what the air cell should look like on days 7, 14, and 18 and in the book Chickens In Your Backyard, it stated that that was most important and had the same diagram. So being that I'm on my first hatch ever, with day 21 being tomorrow, I guess I can't give you any personal experiences, just some more info on what else I have found in my readings.

Here's the link to the diagram

Hope this helps a little, maybe someone who has tried both methods could chime in too.

The person I talked to recommended 20% but I haven't figured out how to get it that low yet.

Yah excitement and panic galore!! Went to do my day 19 candle then lockdown and had 2 peeping and pipping! Hopefully pics by tomorrow morning or I may have to call in sick to work!

anyone know if i can combined 18 day olds with 3-4 day olds in the same brooder would it be ok ? or should i put some kind of fence in between them in the brooder. i'm getting some cochin chicks this weekend and my silkies are due to hatch on the 24th.

I candled some of them, here on day 5. THe light is burning out so not such a good source, but they look like duds AGAIN! I will have to replace the batteries in the flashlight and try again.

debiraymond & Feathered Landings: If you'd like, take a look at the site I posted regarding "dry incubation," on pg. 8, #77 of this thread. Happy hatching!
