Awww, they're so cute! Love the wide variety of colors and markings on them.

My five serama eggs have a little under a week until lockdown starts. I've been so impatient this hatch--it feels like it's been a long time! I want more chicks! I'm definitely excited to get some pips, but there are still several days to go until I reach that point so I just have to try to be patient. A few of my eggs are a bit more porous than I'd like so that concerns me a little, but...well, whatever hatches, hatches, and if some don't hatch then they would have just been breakfast anyway, so at least I'm trying. I'll be fine with this hatch as long as I get two chicks out of it!

So far, candling has gone well--all five eggs are growing and looking good!

I keep telling myself I'll stop hatching after this batch, especially after bringing home seven new birds from the PPBA show, but I'm already saving up more serama eggs for the next hatch, so...so much for that.

Well , we just set blk buff orps 2 white orps from charlie an a scant few australorps tonight at 6 PM. Temp dropped a little as it will then slowly returned to 99 and holding. all is good.

I put in some eggs yesterday (2/2), so I'm joining in the incubation insanity.

I was able to get 6 BCM eggs from a very nice gentleman offering them for a very decent price on Craig's list. Unfortunately 1 had a hairline crack in it (felt it before I saw it), and I decided not to take the chance. So now I'm down to 5.

I'm using a LG 9200 still air, but due to some of the postings I've read about BCM eggs, I decided to make adjustments. First of all, I lifted the incubator up on one inch wood blocks to increase the flow of fresh air. I also put a 10" x 4" x 1" dish in the middle of the incubator that has two sponges in it (with room for a third if necessary) and is filled halfway with water. Hopefully it will help keep the humidity up AND stabilize the temperature (which has been staying right around 99-100 F). I'll have to get a new hygrometer tomorrow - the one I had was old and died when I put it in the LG.

I plan to candle them on day 10 (2/12) to see if anything is happening. Fingers crossed!

ok, i have a question....I am new to hatching, I dont have an incubator at all, but my hen just went broody with 4 eggs that she has been sitting on for 3 days now. (sigh) I do want chicks, so the question is should I let her sit, and about how long does it take for them to hatch, (if they are all good that is) I live in northern Wisconsin, so it is still chilly here, although in the henhouse it stays pretty warm, with their heat lamp.

Any suggestions? I was thinking of letting her hatch them, then pulling the chicks and putting them into a brooder in the house. Their are 6 other hens in the pen, as well as 2 roosters. Not sure how they will take to the new arrivals if left out there with the mama. That and I'm afraid it would be to cold out there for them, even though mama would keep them pretty warm. Just not sure......help!
