Today was my day 9 or 10 not sure. But there are clearly birds in there. Little tiny eggs too!

Congrats to you both.

This is what I ended up with out of 25 eggs. I had to throw 3 away on day 12 due to blood rings, 1 pipped into a vein and died and 1 had a bad intestinal prolapse, so my husband put it out of its misery. The rest of the babies died during a 3-day power outage due to the blizzard that hit the East Coast a week ago and those eggs got buried today. These little ones, though, are healthy and beautiful, so I'm happy

The one in front has splints on due to curled toes...

Yeah its very much normal for the mama hen to be more testy as the chicks are nearer to hatch as she can hear and feel them actually she will start clucking more and louder for the chicks to hear and reconize her clucks for future reference and let them know she's the only one to listen to, kinda like reading and talking to a baby in the womb, sorta.

I just love hatching chicks under setting hens, it is just so intriguing and fun.

The golden reds are even prettier in person!

Your guess is as good as mine on the breed, 'cause they're from my barnyard mix

I have the following in my flock:

Roosters - RSL and BC Frizzle (my Frizzle is very persistent with one of my NHR hens!)

Hens - NHR, BR and WLH

I have no idea what any of these will look like when grown, but I'm really hoping I get at least one Frizzle, even if its a standard

I threw out 2 LF fav eggs because they were really disgusting and stinky then I moved the eggs to the hovabator for a little while I washed the brinsea out. The egg didn't explode but I think I caught it just in time YUCK. They go into lockdown on Friday so not long. Then I have 7 fav bantam eggs go into lockdown on Sunday so lots of hatching going on at the end of the week.

I am approaching day 7. What are the advantages of candling this early? Would it be better to wait until day 14?

Light Brahma x EE has hatched, I had to mark the pure brahmas as it looks just like them!

ETA: added a permenant marker on the center Toe of right hand foot to each Pure Ligth Brahma.
2nd Light Brahma x EE has not even pipped yet.
But I will give it time.....
