Spore: Day 7 is good if you have a strong flashlight, but I prefer day 10. Day 10 is easier, just look for the dark mass/chick in the middle, it's more solid than the clear, unfertile eggs. Most seem to candle on day 7 or 10, day 14 to remove clears, & day 18 for last chance to remove smelly, clear or obvious bad eggs before lockdown that day. Good luck to you!

well due to movement in the incubator and a new pip, I can't get pics of the 2 Light Brahma x EE yet.

But here are some photos to tide you over.....

Hatched Feb 1 & 2 Light Brahma x Barred Rocks -wasn't due until Feb 6th

Hatched Feb 13 & 14th Pure Light Brahma -Not due til Feb 16th

the last one in the incubator for this hatch has pipped, so no open the incubator to take pictures until it has hatched and fluffY..

Time for another lockdown today, due to hatch on Feb 18th. This all bantam batch for the 18th is 3 Ameraucana/Faverolles green/blue eggs & 2 Faverolles on other side of divider (made from craft plastic canvas). Had to separate them as they will look too much alike & want to mark the Favs.

Also, there's a "side car turner" in there with one special egg from my favorite hen, finally saw her come out of nest leaving a warm egg. I ran out of incubators to put it in, so came up with a turning idea until it's due on the 21st, it's fed thru a handle hole in the side, handle removed. I can turn it from the outside without opening the lid in lockdown & put another divider around it. Not a great plan to put it into lockdown ahead of time, but can still turn it & hope that the lower humidity used in "dry incubation" method will be ok for those few days. Will plan egg collecting better next time. Happy hatching everyone!

Went to sleep with a bunch of pips; woke up with three chicks...all from my backyard EEs. Weird thing, two of three have straight combs, but all my EEs have pea combs. I thought pea combs were dominant over "straights from the past." Hmmmm...

Woke up to one dead chick this morning. It was the one who had prolapsed and we had pushed it back in, it just didnt make it.

Our little guy that dried up and needed help out due to leathery membranes is still in the incubator. He had some of his yolk that wasnt absorbed yet. We pushed the yolk in, wrapped him in a washcloth to keep him still (he was still kind of in the egg position last night) and put him in. This morning he was trying to walk around, adn chirping something crazy! His yols (now looking a little dry) was out a little, not as much, again, so hubby pushed it in again and put him back in the bator.

Two Questions: How long can he stay in there? Should we keep pushing the yolk in?

I'm going to try and get some pics up today. We have more due to hatch Saturday, and more the next week, and the next, and the next...

I have 3 pips, yay!! I have 32 eggs, 7 are Silkies, the rest Buff Orpington. Only the Orp. have pipped. So excited!

They are hatching!!!!!!!!

The first one was out and running when I got home yesterday. I was in disbelief at what I was seeing. I really didn't think anything was going to hatch. Number 5 was only a pip before I went to bed last night.

We drove to TSC and picked up chick feed and bedding.

This morning I couldn't sleep, so I woke up around 3am and checked on them. No change. I woke up this morning and checked on them before I took my shower. I saw #4 pushing out of it's shell. #5 was just running a muck over everything. Before I left for work this morning, #1 was pipping like crazy. I really wanted to call in today. I was strong and left. There is nothing I can do until they are all out and fluffy. Tonight I need to setup the brooder and get it going.

So far their names are Sweet&Sour & Paczki for now.

today is day 13! candled ( because i just couldn't help myself ) removed 4- 2clear, 1 bloodring, 1 early quitter. so that leaves me with 6 for now will candle again before lockdown just in case.
