at 7:20 or so I checked on the eggs. 2 more have the beginnings of pips, and the one from before has another pip on the other side of the egg. all other eggs are so covered in poo that i cant tell if there are pips or not. I'll be checking again around 11:00.
Momma hen finally got of the eggs to eat the peas left over from dinner, so a sibling and I grabbed her and checked the eggs. My Mom is picking up starter/grower today. and now we wait....

Congratulations to everyone hatching today, and those waiting!
I don't have anymore fingernails left, no progress from this morning's three pips. I tapped a bit on the side of the bator, and startled one, lol.
Trying not to stand around watching them, so I am checking every 1/2 hr or so. Could be a long wait! Come on little babies!!

Generally, if they don't develop at all they don't smell. At least that's been my experience. Unless they get bacteria in them, or an embryo dies. One is a really nasty rotted smell, the other just smells like death.

another pip, Orpington..WOOT! No Silkie pips yet.

We've got 5 pips, one appeared right before my eyes. I heard the chirping, saw movement and a chipping noise, and voila!
This is fun, however, I'm not very patient, so I'm pacing around. Want to see that first baby!

Green food coloring has been used to mark the heads of the Light Brahma x EE chicks that hatched on Feb 15th. Black Permanent Marker was used on the middle toe of the right foot of the pure Light Brahmas for identification purposes.

I didnt think any of mine were going to hatch because of the crazy temperature fluxes this time (5 power outages, spike to 108, ect...) but

I have 2 so far.
