Yikes! So much work with the incubators, I see. I'll admit to sighing in relief at having broody do the work...

BUT, my broody kicked out one of the ten eggs from her nest. My son put it back, so we'll see what happens. Not sure why...

Wishing you all happy hatching!

Illia, your shamos look a lot like the Malay kampung chickens I saw when I visited my grandparents. They were mighty tall, roosted on top of trees and were actually, so quiet you had to watch for a while to spot them

I think yours look lovely

I've got a clutch of 15 due on the 4th. I don't think they will hatch, as their mothers are inexperienced and hatchery-quality birds, but by the time I found the nest they were already broody. Another little problem associated with free-ranging chickens

Ohhhh...I am soooooo jealous! Last spring was my first time and now I'm getting the itch again!! Problem is...nowhere to house the birds after brooding!!!

But....have fun guys! And good luck with the hatching

I have an air circulator HoverBator, no turner.

Last time I place a 2X4 under one side of bator then the other for turning. i was trying NOT to open it ...

Anyone using one of these? TIPS on it...please... I didn't have a very goood hatch rate last yr.

I'm in. I am using a little giant incubator (no self-turner

) I have a few eggs in there because it is my first time hatching my own eggs. I have some barred rock and white leghorn and RIR eggs in it. They are due to hatch Feb 3rd. I can't wait, I just hope they hatch

I'm using the genesis 1588 Hovabator with fan and turner... I knew nothing about hatching so I need one that does it all...idiot proof like! It is way easy...temp is always rock solid and the water trays are designed to give you the correct humidity..the middle one 50%, the middle two 70% and it worked great my first hatch even with shipped eggs so I got shipped eggs again and everything is going great so far!

Oh and my broody that I gave three of the eggs to got out and then sat back in a different box? Not happy!!!! So I put them back in the bator...will see how they go.

Yes! When I had my Tolbunts in egg form, them being white eggs, I candled at about day 3 and found veins forming. I LOVE candling white eggs. . . You can see everything.

Yes, Shamos are quite similar to Malays and also considered Oriental Gamefowl as they are. Good luck on the hatch! Inexperienced broodies shouldn't matter too much, I've had quite a few who were pros at it on their first go. . . But, they were a broody breed, so who knows.

In answering the question on the LG channels to fill - I usually fill them all, but only with a little bit of water. Basically I take a normal, small amount of water, spread it out between the channels, and see how much it reads in 15 minutes. The thing you must remember is that if your LG Incubator does not have a fan, it is best to let the water be in all the channels, otherwise you may get dry/humid pockets.
