FEBRUARY Hatch-A-Long, come join in!!

AK Michelle - I love your hatching pictures!!!

There's so much excitement in this thread now, it's wonderful.

Funnybirds - thanks for the encouragement. The breeder i got the eggs from told me today that her eggs/chicks don't pip before hatching. I won't hear anything until they are OUT. So, now I'm dying here at work and can't wait to get home and spend the next 24 hours scaring through the bator window. I will be very happy if even 1-2 hatch, so it's not a total bust. I wish someone would devise a thermometer for incubators that sound a loud alarm if the temp goes over 102 or something *smile*.

ok so I got home to 7 chicks running around and one partly out and 5 more eggs pipped...I am worried about the one partly out - she is not zipping but just pushed part of the shell off... oh and I think one egg is a stinker in there...

HI well it isnt a buff silkie but a little chinese new year nankin...you would think a silkie would honor its heritage being chinese..lol...still only one ameraucana hope the cold shipping weather didnt hurt the eggs...but maybe in the morning i will see some more action...have 2 more little striped peeps think they might be partridge silkies....very eggciting to find the little ones..what kind of incubator do you have....good luck with the Ameraucanas....Chikincrazee

I have a hovabator Genesis 1588...it basically runs itself...I didn't even put in a thermometer/hygrometer this time...I just trusted the bator as the temps are solid and the water trays are preset...just fill...

I have 9 out, 3 pips and 3 nothing...awesome as my eggs were sent the week the ice/snow storm hit Atlanta...my eggs sat at the post office from Mon till Friday in the cold...'Rockin Paints' did an awesome job sending them with a heat pack and all....

I have 24 that go in lockdown on the 7th, 4 more on the 11th, 22 more on the 16th and 39 in lockdown on the 20th. So 89 possible fuzzy butz this month...Most if not all are sold. I of course will keep those that don't. But I know that that is just me...right!?! lol

Hi,
Were your 3/15 BLRW shipped eggs? If so how far did they travel?
Joe

Yep, both sets were shipped. The BLRWs came from NC and the Ameraucanas from TX.

I am totally wrung out with the hatching process! Right now I have 6 very nice looking chicks, another one died in the shell trying to hatch - he was so big and I should have helped and I didn't help in time, another one had pipped yesterday - seemed to be having trouble getting the shell broke so I helped him tonight - he is a little over an hour old and he just keep crying and acting spastic like he can't get his equalibrium. I have another 6 eggs that are pipped. There are another 14 eggs that I can't see pips on but several of them are moving.....Today is day 20. Temp is 99.7 qand humidity has spiked up to 84 %. I have pictures but I can't figure out how to get them posted! What should I do about the one that is shaking and crying so much?????? I quickly took the two oldest out of the bator and put them in the brooder because they were pecking and just really creating havoc in the bator. They are very big and strong. I love it but feel sad I didn't help the big one in time and now I am afraid to even leave the bator for fear another one will need help and I won't be there in time and I don't know what to do about the crying, shaking baby. Advice please?!!!!!!!

Mrs. Fluffy Puffy :

Don't be jealous...I am just hoping for warmer weather and more eggs per day.

So help the chick zip and then leave it to kick its way out.
The youtube of the gal helping two chicks out of the double yolker was amazing, very patient, she kept the membrane moist, both chicks were up and about, soo give it a try.
