lol you made me go look just now, and there's now a 2nd pip that wasn't there a few minutes ago

I don't stare long, just at regular intervals, since I need to keep monitoring my humidity. I'll save my staring for when something is actually happening lol. So far, 2 pipped, and a third that I can see shaking at times.

Livinwright, I think you said your first pip was 9pm last night, and it hatched 9am, so a 12 hour process. I wasn't sure how long the process was, so that would explain why I don't see anything happening with the first pipper

Cool! I haven't had to recheck my humidity at all since lockdown except for this morning when I had to remove a vent plug due to the spike in humidity from the chick hatching.

The first pip was actually around 8pm... If I am remembering correctly, I will have to scan back through the thread

The pip to hatch can take a few hours to around 24hrs. Some chicks get really tired from making that first pip hole and the whole zip process that they need to rest a bit inbetween.

if it goes beyond 24 hrs from pip with little to no zip, I would begin the slight helping... something I know most on here do not agree with, but it is because of how dangerous it can be for the chick if the human isn't educated in how to do it.

Okay, not sure if it is my BG hen or one of the Black Australorps.... but this hen has been hoarding eggs for the past week! I removed two of the eggs from under her, and put two that have pipped and are peeping under her. after a minute or two, they started peeping under her, she cocked her head to the side, heard them & talked back to them, and hunkered down on them!!!

I may go out and make another switch or two or three or four!!!!!

Come on broody hen!!! Hatch & own those new babies!!

Just got a 3rd pip a while ago, and it's huge compared to the first two. Like the chick kicked it with it's foot or something lol

ETA: 4th pip now. It's funny, with each new pip, the break is larger than the previous eggs pip.

EEEEEEeeeeee!! OH MY GOSH! I am so excited. First, I miscalculated and thought SATURDAY was hatch day. Nope, it was yesterday/today. Darn my math >< First time I have been off though.

Well. I was hoping my blue Ameraucana was the daddy of these guys.... and...

YES!! We have a blue ameraucana EE mix. At least I think it is a mix. There is a chance it is pure. Oh geez I have to go check its legs! no feathers means it must be from one of the ameraucanas hens. I didnt think they were laying.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!! BABIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
