Newbie help please! I am struggling to keep my temp up now that I took out my turner. It's been cycling between 98.4 and 99.9. I have been adding warm/hot water to the incubator to get the humidity up but it still seems to mess with the temp. I also have added what seems like a lot of water to the incubator, almost 2 cups since yesterday 10am I have 2 sponges and a washcloth in there. It does have a fan and we are in the driest time of year here, so I know that plays a part. I have calibrated my hygrometers with salt. I have been using a straw and syringe and not opening the incubator at all. I am hovering around 60% humidity.

Does all this sound ok? Eggs were rocking yesterday, and only saw 2 little bits of movement so far today on Day 19. So stressful!! Glad lockdown is only a few days and not a whole week!!
Don't add any more water! Sounds like you have oodles. Bet when you lift the lid, you feel a lot of humidity. Temps always change when humidity changes. Temps will go down when humidity goes up. Temps go up when humidity is low. You don't want too high a humidity right now if you are close to lockdown. It can cause too much goop to happen. Calibrated thermometer? Good, still, liift the lid, ...I promise, a quick check wont hurt...if it's feeling pretty damp when you open it, I'm guessing here too... you more than likely have enough humidity in there. During lock down, add a bit more, just a bit, on second day of lock down. Don't worry about temps being lower during lock down, I always lower mine during lockdown. Good luck, lookig forward to photos of babies. :)

Hello everyone,

I was standing downstairs looking at my eggs and decided that since I only have one Olive Egger, I needed more. I just bought 8 Easter Egger chicks from our local farm store, they will be a week old Wednesday. I have a Blue Copper Marans Rooster, "Zaffer" and a Blue Ameraucana hen "Esmeralda" and one Olive Egger "Early Girl". I also have what we thought was a Blue Copper Marans hen "Lazuli"...but that girl is laying a pink egg. She was given to me by my sister-in-law who got her from someone she chicken sat for. So, I've decided to hatch 4 eggs from Esmeralda, 4 eggs from Early Girl and 2 eggs from Lazuli and see what I get! I should get 4 F1 Olive Eggers from Esmeralda, 4 I don't know what generation Olive Eggers from Early as I don't know what generation her mother was (I bought hatching eggs and hatched her). As for Lazuli...who knows??

I have my incubator setup and running now, and will either set the eggs this evening or tomorrow morning. Below are some pictures of the eggs I'm setting, "Dad" and the "Mom's to be":

Duh...clicked post instead of upload a file...here are the pictures :)

Thank you!!! They are my sweet babies and are spoiled rotten! Ms Esmeralda has quite the personality! She thinks she is pretty...or should I say she thinks the bird in the mirror is pretty...she is always in front of that mirror chatting ;)...she is also the most curious girl I have!
