February/Valentine's Day Hatch A Long 2021!

Hi! I have some due to hatch on Feb. 10. I just did the day 8 candling and took out the duds and have 11 that are looking strong. I really have no clue what they are, I just picked up a mixed batch of eggs from a local farm. I probably should have waited a month since I'm in Ontario, Canada and it won't be warm enough for them to be outside until mid-April but I'm sure we'll figure something out.

***Edited to add possible breeds***
Eggs are likely a mix of Australorp, Buff Orpington, Cochin

I'm just west of Ottawa. How long will you keep your chicks indoors ? I figured they'd stay inside for a few weeks (6 probably) and then out to our sun porch or garage. The coop (currently vacant) is fully insulated but there is no power out there yet so no heat. I could run a cord for now if I had to. This is our first time with chicks. I've also ordered some day olds which are coming March 24th!

What do you have in the incubator !

Some barnyard mixes! This is my first hatch in my new incubator (Hovabator 2370).

From my flock...Brahma rooster over rhode island red, leghorn and azure layers.

From a friend's flock...mixes of orpington, EE, heritage mixes, silkie, ayam cemani.

If this hatch goes well, I'll be picking up Marans, Isbar & Cream leg bar eggs.

Thats exciting! And you're self turning, can't wait to see hatch day. Silkies our my favourite. Very sad I don't have any in my incubator at the moment!

I actually hatched some in the fall. My barred rocks I moved outside early January at about 8-9 weeks old. I could have moved them out sooner though. They were in our mud room, not insulated but with heat lamp and windows shrink wrapped. They have been out for almost a month and doing great.

On the other hand I still have all my silkies inside the mud room. I am planning on moving them out once the weather comes back up a bit. They are about 11 weeks old now!!!

As for these chicks I am currently hatching I will probably have them out of the brooder sooner like you said 6 weeks or as soon as I see some good feathering on them.

I should mention we have power for our water so it doesn't freeze but the taking water out every morning method works for some people too, I doubt in March that will be an issue- Hopefully not at least!
