Febuary hatch a long

Well, I only had two that hatched out of the seven eggs. The others died in the shell. There was one that was severely deformed the others looked fine. One had the yolk absorbed, but never pipped. Its hard to say why they didn't hatch, I did an eggtopsy but I'm not very good at looking at it and determining what went wrong. I'm just happy I have the ones that I do.

I have purchased a new incubator - Octagon 20 Advance with humidity pump and ordered more eggs for the week of March 3rd - so will be trying again. Hopefully with more success this time. I was using an LG incubator.

I have an LG as well. I found with last year's hatch, the humidity was too high at start of hatching. As the chicks started hatching, it raised the humidity further. This caused the first few to hatch healthy, but drowned the rest. I'm keeping this hatch at 55% humidity on lockdown today.

I have 4 11 day eggs under my hen they all appear to be developing, however it's in the 30's here and I'm wondering will they be ok with their momma in the old weather? I'm not bringing them in. The house they are in has heat lamps so it's fairly warm. I only have three hens I got these eggs from a friend.

We've had a wretched cold and wet winter here in maine and my broody has had no issues at all with her chicks. The babies have been running around the coop with no heat from the very beginning. Mama keeps them plenty warm and safe.

Thank you so much! She is such a good momma and not mean at all I'm excited for her to have babies!

Good luck - let us know what happens.

Congrats to everyone who got chicks and sorry to those with losses. I have two little rir. So glad there is two so they can be snuggle buddies. The last two of my staggered hatch go into lockdown tomorrow night. One looks like it will possibly make it but the other I think died around day 13 and is now stuck to the membrane. :( we'll see what happens.

Will do. So far, I can only maintain 53% humidity at the expense of covering a few small holes. Keeping my fingers crossed. :)

Yes, glad you have 2. Best of luck with the other 2. :fl
