so what exactly does the floating test prove? if they float are they for sure still alive??

The float test basically shows if the egg floats to the top at an angle that the chick made very close to full term, but does not mean it is still alive. Now if it floats at an angle and you see the egg wiggling then it is still alive. The water needs to be about 100 degrees and make sure it is calm when you put the eggs in then watch for a few seconds to see what happens.
i'm sorry! i'm kinda convinced all of mine won't hatch and i;m crushed!
I hope some make it did you do the float test?

i did do the test, i didn't see any movement.. they were all over half covered by the water

I have been reading some other threads where other people lost power to their incubators. Our power was out for 2.5 hours while we were out at dinner. The temp was 79F when we got back. One of my eggs is supposed to be in lockdown starting tomorrow, and the other 9 are on day 9. I candled them as soon as I got home and saw no movement, but they were still cold. When should I check for movement again? Should I proceed with lockdown for the one egg?

My first hatch is going terribly.

At 79 for two hours they should be still ok.
Do you have a separate incubator for lock-down.

I do not have a separate incubator. I'm just going to hike the humidity in the one I have for a few days. Based on what I've been reading, this shouldn't affect my bantam eggs too much. But now that the power went out I'm not sure it's even worth the effort.

I would go ahead because that isn't that cold for a couple hours hens leave the nest some for quite a while and their eggs are still good. It might just be a little later to hatch if it is ok. I would candle it again in the morning.
