Feces in water?

I recently bought a 5 gallon waterer as I was having to refill my 1 gallon every other day...the problem I'm having is that the larger base of the new waterer now sits under a roost, and the girls are pooping in the water. Obviously I intend to fix this problem, but in the meantime, will it hurt them to drink this water? They are all up on the roost right now and I would hate to get them down unnecessarily. Thanks in advance!

Chickens do that; it's hard to avoid sometimes. I have squirrel baffles over the feeders and waterers. You could also put some kind of roof over it to keep the poo out. Mary
