Feed brand or feed content?

That's why I say "typically". I've never seen it either, but They, and several other of the "big brands" all claim to have Medicated All Flock-type feeds. I've just never seen them on the shelf.
Yeah, I was just trying to say that it might be found.

I think it's more that they have a formula for it. Maybe it was on the shelf at one time and nobody bought it. I mean, what's the point of a medicated all flock? :idunno

My birds are in the final stage of transitioning from DuMor chick starter/grower 20% feed to DuMor 16% layer pellet feed. They are thriving on the DuMor feed and I have not noticed any bad smelly poop or an over abundance of flies.

Noticed everyone seems to be using a higher protein feed .... is there something I need to know here?
I've been feeding a Non-medicated (after 10 weeks old) Starter-grower 18% for 3.5 years to Pullets and Hens with a separate container of Oyster Shells.

I recently switched back to a Layers feed 16% for my egg layers, 4 ISA Browns 16 months old.
I am about halfway through the bag and they are still laying 27/28 eggs weekly.

I give them Scratch Grains twice daily, 1 Tbsp each 2 times, midmorning/early afternoon, except when temps are above 80 F/27 C, when I substitute the afternoon treat with a wet mash made with Layers feed and cold water, a 1/4 cup each before adding water.

I will also switch my 16 weeks old Barred Rocks and Rhode Island Reds over to a Layers feed after 18 weeks of age, or when at least one of each breed is laying.
I have no Cockerels/Roosters in my 2 Flocks.

Also, is feed with oyster shell in the feed enough (Purina Layer crumble) or do they need more? And do they need grit with their food if they dont get treats or extras?
I've noticed way less Oyster shell consumption since switching to a Layers feed, but it is still disappearing.

I keep a container of Poultry Grit (Granite) available at all times.
I give Scratch Grains as a treat.
My chickens only free range an hour daily, but consume a lot of grass weeds, bugs and grubs.

I've seen it at my local TSC, but it sells out quickly.

The tsc website shows a pic and price but when I click it it says not available. You've seen it and they have a price, but not available for me so I guess they'll only ship regionally (at least heavy items). Maybe nobody bought it around here...crumbles is kinda half the point of FR.

And which feed exactly depends on what's available fresh where you shop!

Key point!

That's why I'm not picky about feed. What's freshest, over 18% protein, and lowest in cost. The chickens eat whatever I put into the feeder.

The Flock raiser pelleted feed has never been available locally, in spite of it being on the Purina website. Anyone ever find it out there?

I've had it. I don't care one way or the other unless I'm feeding chicks so I buy whichever form meets the above criteria.

The metal feeder feeds pellets better than crumble.

The plastic feeders feed crumble better than pellets.

Both work. :)

I’ve always used Dumor for the chickens and the starter for chicks and never had a bad smell! My birds did well on it. I don’t like Purina crumble because it has so much powder in the bags so to me it’s a waist. Just moved out of state and I’m having trouble finding a good brand. All I can find is Kent ( never heard of that one ) but they did have Nutrina . I was told by a few good breeders that their birds had problems on Nutrina so I didn’t get that.
Kent should be a good feed, they have some cattle feed products I would like to have access to.

I had issue with purina and dust too, but recently dumors crumbles hasnt been any better...
So now I get a large cheap plastic sifter to separate the crumbles out from the dust. When I get to the bottom of the bag, and it’s all dust left, the birds get several meals of mash :idunno

On the issue of protein, right now my birds get their free range time in the evenings, so I don’t mind feeding the hens pellets, since there’s plenty of bugs for protein. Come winter, they’ll be put on a higher protein diet to compensate for the lack of forage...
