Feed consumption?

the more feed you buy the cheaper it gets, at the feed store I pay 23 dollars a bag of 27%, if I go to the mill I have to buy a ton at 11.70 a bag for the same stuff! big difference tom!!

Hmm. What protein levels do they need for the different ages? Nutrena has a 27% for $12.75 here (but, the crumbles tend to become powdery from Nutrena), and there's a "turkey finisher" that's $12.50, but the protein is unknown. The feed mill also has a mash of 22% for $19 something for 100lbs. I assume that mash would be out of the question for turkeys, or am I wrong?

It's not quite as cut and dry as Tom's numbers make it seem. The breed of turkey, the conditions in which it is kept, the feeder set-up, the type of feed and the feeding schedule will all affect the total amount of feed it takes to get the turkey to market weight. If you're specifically looking for cheap, fast turkey go with Broad-Breasted Whites, they generally have the best accepted feed conversion of all breeds. They're followed relatively closely by the Broad-Breasted Bronze. And then you have your heritage breeds, all of which have their own unique conversion ratios for any given situation.
