We are ordering about 10 keets and I was wondering what to feed them? I have only raised baby chicks before and our guinea flock is dead exept one lonely male. Should we feed them chick starter? and does anyone know of any hatcheries with some hopefully cheap keets for sale?

What feed stores do you have in your area? Last year one of our local feed stores had keets during their chick days. I'm kinda counting on them having them again this year because I plan to get some.....

DS was just reading this and suggested I keep track of all their goings on after I get them, so that I can write the "Guinea's Book of World Records" LOL

Guinea Fowl keets require more protein than chicks... they are Game Birds, and their nutritional requirements are more closer to Turkeys', Pheasants' and other Game Birds'. Turkey, Pheasant or Game Bird Starter Feed around 28% protein, medicated with Amprolium (to help build their immunity to Coccidiosis) until they are at least 6 wks old is what is most recommended for keets. Yah they can survive on chick starter, but it does not contain the level of protein or amino acids that keets need. They will grow slower, feather out slower and you may have feather picking and cannibalism problems from them lacking the protein they need in their diet.
