They can eat goat food? i didn’t know that! I payed 13
last time for the food I got them and a month later it’s 17 and yea, organic is off the table. I’m selling chicks now instead of eating the eggs. Since it’s the ā€œchick seasonā€ it’s good money
We'll find out lol ive given my birds pig feed before as it was $3 for #50lbs few years ago and my normal feed went from $11 to $13 and goat feed is $10 so imma get a bag and see if they can eat it or do i need to soak it lol

I just heard that fertilizer prices have risen significantly. That will affect the price of American grain. Fertilizer prices are affected by fuel costs. Plus, the Russian oligarch who owned the largest yacht in the world, had a monopoly on Russian fertilizer as well as owning the largest coal producer there.

I cant buy organic anymore for my chickens it’s insane how much it went up, almost 7 dollars
I decided I couldn't pay $30 for 40 lbs organic anymore either. I did find non-GMO Flock Raiser by Kalmbach that is about $19/50lbs. I'm ok with that for a compromise.

I'll be glad when I can give the chickens some organic veg scraps and weeds from my garden to stretch out the dollars a bit. And July and August are Japanese Beetle months. Free protein and pest control!

As for those substituting goat or pig food for poultry feed, the chickens will eat it and will work short term but doesn't mean it meets their nutritional requirements.
Goat feed is too low in fat, too high in fiber and quite low in vitamin A for chickens.
Both being monogastric animals, pig feed could work but again is a little high in fiber.
Plus, there is a significant difference in pig feeds based on the age of the pig for which it is intended.

I can’t find organic feed. Could be because our two local feed stores only sell feed from a local mill. Anyway, we pay $28.75 for laying mash (55lb bag). That is tax included.

Ouch!!!
Even the expensive place with old feed by my house isn't that high. They are about 26.
At the Farm & Home in the next state (hour+ round trip) it is fresher and about 22. TSC is across the road from there and a bit higher, but still kept fresh.
