Feed question for new hatchlings.

When I received them I gave them water and food in a shallow lid. They are going nuts over the food. I notice the larger pieces they through out of the lid. Would it be a good idea to grind up the feed a bit so the pieces are smaller? Anyone ever done this? John

I put mine in the blender for a bit and it works lovely. You will find though, that they will throw food everywhere anyway. They can make the biggest messes!!

It's a chick thing...they peck and scratch.....throw it all over the place....usually will find the bigger pieces and will gulp those down too....

I alway just throw some down on the paper towels to show them how to peck....they will be fine...chicks are messy....

The only ones I've ever worried about the feed being too big are little silkies or other bantams. Even those after a couple days are on to the bigger stuff.
