feed question

The "mother" in vinegar is the glutinous glob that is actually the living colony of microorganisms responsible for the fermentation that turns the apple juice into vinegar. In theory, you can add it to apple juice and nurture it to make more vinegar. That's a simplified version of the process. There are other brands of vinegar with mother, or you can buy the microorganisms and inoculate your own juices to make your own vinegar, similar to making wine or beer or kefir.

I feed my chicks Show Gold medicated which is 26% protein. Game Bird chick feed is fine. If they have trouble with it, especially bantam chicks, I would grind it up somewhat. During the breeding season and during the molt, I feed my birds Game Bird Breeder pellets which is 21% protein.
I show my birds at poultry shows and people have asked me what I put on the birds to make their feathers so shiny, I tell them it's their feed. Like people are what they eat the same applies to the birds.

Angle that heat so that it's only heating one small spot. That brooder is pretty closed in. What is the temp at the furthest point from the heat?
Gave them a couple grass plugs(with dirt) switched the food to the medicated Purina, but im still seeing a lil build up under vents. Dont think im to hot, or to cold..The chics are laying around ceramic heater, but they do get up and wonder off to the other side to drink/eat etc. No stress that im aware of..Without putting them in a bator type brooder where its pretty much closed off from outside air, theres no way to maintain 1 specific temp in the whole brooder. Im starting to think a lil pasty butt is just part of the process? Will update 2morrow to see if gets better..Its not really bad, i just dont want it to get bad..
You don't want the brooder to be a constant temp. They need one warm zone and one zone completely unheated. The cooler the brooder is away from the heat, the better.

Under lamp is about 95/98 other side of brooder next to fee/water is about 75/78 the brooder is inside in AC maintained at about 72/74..

When we had our first flock back in the 60's, I recall feeding the birds grains. Don't recall if we gave them any other type of feed. The birds were healthy but they were also free ranged.
