feed question

95/98 is a bit warm for chicks more than a few days old. Might want to replace some of that plywood with wire to allow more heat to dissipate so that the rest of the brooder can come down to room temp.
I have some 2 week old chicks I have them in our garage in a large wire cage the wire is ½ x ½ inch hardware cloth no heat but a 3 watt halogen bulb that gives off the same amount of light as a 25 watt bulb. They spread out all over the cage so they're not too hot or too cold. At night as the temperature will go down some, I cover their cage to help hold in the warmth from the day and they are doing fine and growing like weeds. Since it has been so hot here, tomorrow they are going into a temporary pen outdoors in some shade and in some grass. It will be fun to watch them venture into the unknown for them.

The pasty butt seems to have improved, since i removed the game feed and replaced with chcik starter (My dumb mistake) I will also take the 100wat ceramic heater out and replace it with a 50, and recheck temps..thanks.

The chicks will be 3 weeks old (Sunday). Monday they had their first look at the grass. At first they didn't want to go out of their cage and then one would go out but go right back in. After quite awhile a few ventured out and now every day I have been letting them out and when I open the cage door now they all scramble out. They are so much fun to watch.

By 3 weeks old, in Florida, they won't be needing any additional heat.

They had a 40 watt bulb on them at night for their first week and a 3 watt bulb since (just for light). I may have one more hatch (special eggs).
