I have some 2 week old chicks I have them in our garage in a large wire cage the wire is ½ x ½ inch hardware cloth no heat but a 3 watt halogen bulb that gives off the same amount of light as a 25 watt bulb. They spread out all over the cage so they're not too hot or too cold. At night as the temperature will go down some, I cover their cage to help hold in the warmth from the day and they are doing fine and growing like weeds. Since it has been so hot here, tomorrow they are going into a temporary pen outdoors in some shade and in some grass. It will be fun to watch them venture into the unknown for them.95/98 is a bit warm for chicks more than a few days old. Might want to replace some of that plywood with wire to allow more heat to dissipate so that the rest of the brooder can come down to room temp.
