I messed up and picked up way too much turkey grow crumbles 24%. Assuming that I give free access to oyster shell what negative effect would this have on my laying chicken hens if they got this as their feed to a month or two?

I would not feed it whole
but buy a bag of regular feed and 1/2 each kind

is there no way they will take it back?

Did you not realize this feed was more expensive than hen layer?

I would keept the feed bags wrapped tightly stored in garbage cans with lids out of the sun
as that destroys the feed nutirients

if this is going to take three months to feed two bags

also do you not have a friend to help feed it up who might have game birds or turkeys

the feed store guy sure wasn't too smart when pawing this off on you
any questions email me

Really not their fault. This was a feed store about an hour and a half from my house that sells the feed for several dollars less per 50# bag than my local source. I was in the neighborhood on business so I stocked up for my 20 hens and 6 poults and simply did not pay attention to what I had at checkout. Thought I got 100# of turkey feed and 200 of laying pellets. Turned out the other way around. The turkey crumbles still cost less than the laying pellets at my local feed stores so can't be too upset. I already have it in the garage in really secure clean galvanized cans. It will get used. Just have never understood how a feed with higher protein would hurt laying hens if given adequate calcium and vitamins.

You'll be fine. Mix some whole oats (no more than 15%) and that will keep their weight at a good level. Definitely add calcium though. I feed a high protein diet to my birds, and they look wonderful... but I do have game breeds.
