Feed Storage?

Where or how do you all store your feed? We keep ours in a barn next to the coop in a big metal drum container, but I would like some new ideas...

I was considering those Bergan Stack N Stor container systems, so that I could stack them and have several different ones for chicken feed, chick starter, scratch, calcium, grit, rabbit food, etc. The only problem is that the biggest one I've seen holds 65lbs. As we all know, standard chicken feed comes in 50lb bags and I go through a 50lb bag before a week is up. I try to have 100lbs of chicken feed on hand at any given time, but would love to be able to store more.

So, how do you guys store your feed?

I use stackable feed storage containers for my chicken feed. I don't know what brand they are. I got them at the local feed store. They do only keep about 50 lbs of feed at a time though. They work really well since I can stack them two high.

We have multiple trashcans labeled with open feed in them, and the bags are stacked flat two piles wide 4 bags high on a large utility plastic shelving unit. We use the side poles to steady the bags in place. The shelves allowing stacking of different feeds. It is all in the hatching/brooder house.

I use the large Rubbermaid trash cans with lids and handles. I would guess them to maybe be 40-50 gallon? They will hold a lot of food! I also have one that I keep my shavings in. The lids snap down nice and tight too. I can drag the one with shavings in it into the coop when I'm changing nesting boxes.

the big trash cans are a good idea! I may have to try those out!

I have gone back to metal trash cans. They come in 10, 20, and 30 gallon sizes and the large will hold 2 50 lb. bags of feed, the medium holds 1 bag. I use the small for bags of cat and dog food, and bags of grit. I set them up on boards so they don't rest on dirt and they will last many years. They are easy to just dip into and fill feeders and keep out mice and bugs.

I use the large rubber maid containers, they hold 100lbs of food. I store them under my dropping boards so they are convenient to get at. I like the way the metal trash cans look but I heard about the moisture issue too, plus I had the rubber maid containers already and free always wins out!
