So - yesterday was feed store day. We live FAR, so I try to make one run every 2 weeks, thus saving time and gas. I screwed up - I brought my husband along. Not only does he move as slowly as possible all day (it's like he's waiting on Christmas) - but HE DOES NOT PAY ATTENTION!!!

A trip that should have had me done and home by 3 or 4 took me until 7pm last night - and I STILL ended up unloading most of it because he was planning to plan how he would do things....no patience...I have NO patience any more...and he was testing it...so I just started tossing stuff and didn't look like I should have as we unloaded....

At the feed store, he and the person loading my feed were busy discussing the neighbors and their half dead horse (it's 30 and really looks about ready to go at any time) instead of paying attention to what they loaded. I ASSumed (my next mistake) that he was paying attention as I sat in the truck and waited...and waited...and WAITED.... but NNNOOOO...that would have been another challenge!!

So, this morning I go out to feed, and I notice I have 20% LAYER CRUMBLES instead of 20% CHICK STARTER CRUMBLES!!!

Gee, thanks sweetie for "having my back"...so now...what would you do?

Would you feed the broiler chicks the layer feed because really, they are only going to be here a few weeks and you don't have to worry about the calcium being too high since you aren't trying to get to laying age?

OR - would you go back to the feed store Monday and swap it out for the right stuff....keeping in mind the feed store is a HEFTY little ride (2 hours round trip)?

I knew I should have just done this myself, I knew it...and I'm a little "rantish" sorry

But it really IRKS ME that this happened - I told him what I was getting, and then they loaded up one wrong bag...accidents happen...but it's going to be MONTHS before the laying hens are laying yet...don't want to feed 5 little RIR pullets the wrong feed and end up with them all screwed up from getting too much calcium too soon...so what would ya'll do?

And this is why I leave the Princess home when I go shopping.

I would go back on Monday and get the proper feed.

20% protein is 20% protein. Like you said, the added calcium doesn't matter and two hours in a truck driving does. Heck, the gas alone is over half the cost of that bag of feed. I'd feed it and not worry.

I had a mix up not too long ago (20% lay crumble and 20% broiler grower), and called the feed mill to ask what to do.. Kids opened bags and didn't know which they poured into the bins.. Anyways the guy said to go ahead and feed whatever we had in the bin to the cornish x... I would say just feed it to them, they will be fine.. Mine are still growing like weeds..

Thanks ya'll!

If this had happened months ago, when we still lived "in town" I wouldn't hesitate to go back...but now...it's a whole nother ball game ya know?

My 'redneck carefree side' says : "Just feed it to 'em - have you SEEN what a chicken will eat? Don't worry..."

My 'cautious city girl side' says: "Don't mess up 19 little chicks."

I'm gonna go ahead and mix it 50/50 with the other bag - the CORRECT feed....I'll feel better mixing it and I'm not gonna stress it too much. They are only a few weeks away from processing anyways right?

And he is NEVER allowed to come again on feed store day! he just got lucky and gave me his sad eyes and said "But I never get to spend Saturday with you...

I'm always working...

....." and I caved....I won't cave next time!

What did you do? Marry my ex?

He'd mope around, move slow, disappear whenever there was work, because if he dragged his feet long enough, someone else would get it done.

Then he would deliberately do things really wrong or break things so that it wasn't worth it to ask him to do any work, because you knew he would mess it up, costing time and money.

If all else failed, he'd have an allergy attack and have to go and lie down.

Did I mention, he is my ex?

On another post about a husband in the doghouse, someone suggested that he be rehomed. LOL...

Husbands don't always understand. Mine thinks stuff gets done around here by magic. He is almost right...
