Feed Store Neglect

Hi guys. I need guidance. I’m super frustrated with my local farm & home store today. They got a delivery of chicks yesterday, so we stopped to look at them after grabbing feed. In one of the coops, 10-15 of the chicks had so much pasting on their behinds that there were huge balls of dried poop blocking their vents. A couple of them were waddling and barely moving with visibly extended tummies and were obviously in pain. Some of them were even crying and it was heartbreaking. I spoke with a manager and then waited around until she and a couple employees went to check and seemed super aggravated that they had to deal with it. I was in the store for 30 more minutes after that and no one did anything or even gave the chicks a second look. I’m trying to give them the benefit of the doubt, so we are going back tonight to check on them and make sure they got some attention. Sharing a picture below. This wasn’t even the worst one, but I couldn’t get a clear photo of the chicks with the biggest issues because the healthy chicks were running around so much. Please tell me whether or not I’m overreacting and what you’d do in this situation.

Well, yeah... but why would they just throw them in a coop to sell them without taking care of them first? Still seems extremely neglectful to me.

Thank you, I plan to. Ive already called and left a message for someone higher up and I’m waiting to hear back. The point of my question was to see if this level of pasty butt is concerning and something I should pursue furthur.

Hopefully the next person you talk to will care more than the first. Pasty butt should be taken care of before they put the chicks out on the floor.

Thank you so much. I’m new to this so I didn’t want to be a pain in the rear complaining about things I don’t know much about.

If some things aren't pointed out before it's too late, than you'd wish you had spoken up. Some people don't care about chicks, some don't feel they have the time, some don't know any better. You aren't hurting anything and if they're bothered by you telling them about a problem that could kill the chicks, then they probably don't care. Just find someone who will.

I was in Tractor Supply the other day and left because I couldn’t stop crying (good thing the mask hid it!). I’m not a PETA person. I eat meat. But damnit, humans are obligated to treat animals humanely. Take the five minutes to rinse off the butt. It is not that hard. And if they don’t want to, they should not be selling chicks. Common sense.
