feed store refuses to give us layena instead of flock raiser?

:Go elsewhere and tell her you are moving your patronage elsewhere and why. I won't say anymore about feedstore personnel, but honestly, what is up with some of these people??

.......and I thought it was bad when I paid for crumbles and accidentally mash was loaded into my trunk......

I couldn't imagine how I would react if someone tried to tell me I couldn't buy what I wanted for my chickens !!!!!

I have been known to act like a "redneck" a time or two in my life

Why? What else have they done wrong?

they haven't done anything wrong but they are selling baby pekins again this year about the time ours should hatch, and we can only keep two so we were gonna give them the babies to sell. we got our pekins from them last year.

You have to work with and train most of them. Many know chickens, few waterfowl.
My store was for the horse trade, they KNEW horses, but were willing to learn about waterfowl. I talked them into special ordering a bag of waterfowl pellets for me. It was great! (strongly recomend Southern States' waterfoul pellets for those who can get them) I talked them up with other waterfowl people in my area and had them tell the feed store that the 'gooseman' had sent them. Soon they were ordering waterfowl feed by the pallet load and took steps to always have some in stock. Since I worked I would be there Saturday, their busy day when they had some young part timers helping with the heavy work. Never leave the store without checking the labels! I had to have them offload the wrong feed more than once. Oh and since they were horsemen I let them give out my number for people who had waterfowl questions.

Mine actually wasted more when I tried to feed them the pellets, they hated them. So I went back to crumbles and they don't waste a bit.

As for that feed store clerk, I'd definitely have a conversation with the owner, if it isn't her - and I'd also tell Purina what went on, I'm sure they don't want their distributors acting like that. Whoever suggested it was more profitable for them to force you to use one type over another is probably right.

Could this be happening because of your age? Do they realize its for your animals? They may think you are there picking up grain for your parents and do not want to send you home with wrong type.

Here's the description right off of Purina Mills' pamphlet: Once your laying birds (and all adult birds including roosters, ducks, geese, and turkeys) reach 18 weeks of age, they will need Layena SunFresh Recipe to support egg laying. Natural and wholesome like the Start & Grow products, Layena contains high calcium levels to support eggshell formation while maintaining a healthy skeleton. In addition, Layena is fortified with manganese to enhance shell quality. High levels of xanthophyll from marigolds result in rich, yellow yolks, while the enhanced concentration of vitamin E provides for more robust immune protection.

I in no way support this product of endorse it's use, your money is your money, your choice is your choice, this is just the exact description in their promotional pamphlet that I have generously copied for your use.
