Feed store shopping list

Oh my heavens don't buy shavings from Petco! You'll be paying for a guinea pig amount of shavings where you can get a HORSE amount of shavings for the same price. I pay $8 a bag and it fills my 6x8 foot coop several inches deep.

Everything is more expensive at Petco.

heat lamp, brooder, feeder and waterer...check

TSC is a great place to get the bedding mine has large 8cu bags for $6. I haven't seen anyone else suggest something to raise the waterer.. i use 2 bricks it keeps it up just high enough to avoid a ton of bedding getting kicked into the water

How do you lift anything bigger than the big bags at Petco? They weigh 40lbs or more. I must just be a wimp. I didn't see any bedding at TSC but I also wasn't looking for it. I make a trip that way next friday, I'll stop in and look what they've got.
Our feed store just changed management and I'm not sure what is going on there yet. I'll get the bag at petco to get started with my babies since i'll be up that way. We live about 20-40 miles from everything so all trips are combined as much as possible to minimize gas consumption.

They usually load it into the car for you at the feed store. That and I use the flap on top as it kind of is like a handle.

def agree on buying your shavings at a farm store,i pay $4.39 a bag for a huge bag for horses that i use for the two bunny cages and will use for my chicks. The other day i seen at a retail store a bale of hay for rabbits for $7.00 and it looked like maybe two ponds,i about died. Lol i pay 6.50 per bale for my horse and its a 50lb bale.i grab a handfull of loose hay for our rabbits and the horse never knows i am sharing her hay :)

I'm not sure what you're buying, but a 2 cubic feet bag of aspen shavings on Amazon says it only weighs 25 lbs. I know I can manage the big bages of shavings from the feed store well, and I'm a sedentary 40 year old woman.

Have you tried any local lumber yards? I get huge bags if shavings for my 6 coops that last 2-3 weeks. I only pay 4.50 for mine. A lot of times if the lumber yard mills it's own wood they sell the shavings cheap.
