Aparently pig grower is the same as chicken food, the pellet are just bigger and has less antibiotics. It’s safe though if you have it. All purpose feed, I think is okay, but the chicken layer pellets that they usually eat are best for them.

It's not ideal! But it may be okay.

Age and breed of duck will matter.. Protein content always matters. Niacin is also an important component of duck(ling) feed, which most chicken feeds do NOT meet adequately (if pig feed is indeed the same as chicken as stated by another poster) and it is not usually listed on the guaranteed analysis of most feeds as it isn't required to be by law, but can be found by contacting the company.

Antibiotics are illegal in animal feed in the US. Beware not to believe everything you read as even the most well meaning of folks can be misinformed or mistaken!

A link to nutritional requirements for ducks..

If the ducks are layers they may need access to a calcium source.

Pig grower is not cheaper in my location. Nor is all purpose feed. than a poultry layer feed or Purina Flock Raiser with oyster shell on the side.

Feeds in the US are labeled for the species and age they are appropriate for by law. Ultimately, it is their choice what they feed. Pasture conditions vary as does purpose. Living IS dangerous!

Hope you are enjoying BYC! :frow

I was in our feed store the other day and there were some folks in there talking about feeding only cracked corn to their poultry. How do layers lay their best when only fed cracked corn? Maybe I am wrong but I think that what you feed is what your going to get out of your flock. I want healthy chickens and ducks and geese. I also want my girls to be very well fed so they are less likely to have laying issues.
