I actually have my first broody silkie sitting on sizzle eggs right now. She is only 6 months old and started laying at 5 months then broody a month later! I have a couple older girls that went broody early in the spring but I hadn't been sucked into the hatching eggs world completely yet so I have been wishing one of them would go broody this summer but nope! I can't wait to finally have a mama with babies :)

It is fun to watch them with their babies, mine all keep their babies in the coop with everyone and all do fine, I've never had an issue, even with a crazy roo. Even my d'Uccles that are in breeder coops have their babies in there with the roosters they are usually meaner to me when there is babies in with them, really protective of their families.

That is good to know I was thinking about moving her but she has been fine with everyone so far and has been sitting in the nest for about 5 days with no problems. I only candle around day 10-14 to check for development then leave everything else to see what hatches. How many eggs can a silkie easily sit on? I have her on 4 small sizzle eggs for now but was thinking about adding maybe 2 once I check for development in a couple days.

Wow I had NO idea this existed. It certainly didn't used to. Well, that I was aware of anyway. Seems to me that if you are annoyed and some of you obviously are ( I read back to page one.) :D that maybe you Would PM people , it's none of my business ( well I guess it kinda is) since I'm one of the ones talking over there...I think it woulda been easier to pm me...I have been trying to talk ONLY about the things relevant to that auction thread, currently it was shipping but I stopped chit chatting when They asked us to. It doesn't do much good for y'all to say HERE on this chat thread" y'all come on over and chat HERE" and all that....when they DON'T know you are even here...:/ just sayin

I for my own self, will come here to "chat"

I don't get to chat nearly as much as I would like too! I have an almost 3 year old daughter and a 6 month old daughter that keep me busy. And everytime I log on here I spend every free second reading threads trying to learn about all the breeds I decided to hatch this summer which is A LOT haha. In January I had 8 hens I got from a hatchery a couple years ago. Now I have over 100 which most are juveniles and very young chicks. I figured since we have the room why not? :)

Thread has been here a while, no one cared to use it. When I suggested it they all said that I was being rude. I don't know I was I just asked them to keep it down on the auction thread. I think Phage has asked them to move it over here though, it is getting to be more chat than auction,

Enjoy them babies, human and chicks. Mine are all grown up now, last one will be 18 in september and going off to school.

Mine are slowly creeping away from home too..I still have two of five still home. But 17 is such an " almost " age... Almost old enough, almost allowed, almost gone ... Makes me sad sad sad

So I'm so mad at one of my broodies, she hatched out a chick and killed it. I think what happened is the Marans are playing musical nests and the one that has been on the nest the longest is sitting on the wrong eggs. So the other one killed the chick when it hatched. Feather legged barred rock wheaten marans mix. The Wheaten Marans has some strong feather leg gene's, all the Wheaten OE's have feathered legs, when I used a BCM I never got feathered legs.
