Feedback on Learning Center "Treats Chart"

Thanks for such a helpful chart Buff! I'm glad I found it. I almost gave my chickens a big heaping pile of potato peels the other night, but I never made it out there with them! Yikes!!!

Claud, I believe that canned beans are already cooked.

As far as raw cranberries, I think they'd be pretty acidic... I don't have any other information on them.

I agree with Wclawrence.

Chickens do not have stomachs they have gizzards and that is supposed to filter out poison.
Just like our little flying feathered friends they eat poisonous berries in the wild and they are ok, I think :|
My girls love corn tortillas, whole wheat bread, and when greens are scarce try tossing in leaves from your yard, it keeps them busy with the scratching and they find lots of little buggers in their. Besides that they will eat just about anything.

I must comment, I do not feed starch on a regular basis, veggies and protein is best, spaghetti is not a natural food source.

cook your cranberries first (the dried are kind of ok but I just use fresh cooking them first)

Awesome job on the treats list, Buff Holligans! I just discovered it and it looks wonderful! Thanks for all the hard work and thanks to all who contributed to it.

Shredded coconut. Does anyone have any input? Is it okay? I tried this treat over the holidays when I had some left over from baking. They love it as much as mealworms!! My little house chicken will practically do tricks for a little piece of coconut.

Any thoughts on coconut?

Thank you Nifty-Chick for the nice comment!

Regarding shredded coconut, I imagine you'd be referring to the sweetened kind from the grocery store. So not only would it be high fat (coconut is pretty fatty), but you'd get excess sugar too, which doesn't do chickens any good at all.

If it's plain coconut like you'd get from a health food store, I imagine it would be okay in minimal "dosages".

I can't think of any toxic property it may have...

By the way, if anyone has good pics of their chickens with treats, PM me and maybe we can add them to the Treats Chart site. (I'm wanting a spaghetti-eating pic!)
