Feedback on the current Like system...

I'm curious, does the new like system get people posting more and staying online more?

my understanding of likes in a forum system like this one is to encourage people to be nice, thoughtful and post things of value, but mainly to not be a jerk. it is inherently addictive to some extend and encourages people in a subtle way and compared to the drama i've seen on a lot of sites, this one is humming along beautifully with a surprisingly low focus on moderation. Once a person has been around for a while it's value is probably nominal. certainly sometimes a new comer starts an emotionally powerful thread and suddenly ends up with more likes than posts and of course that sort of thing does throw into question whether likes accurately represent merit. I personally am fine with it, after a while it's value deminishes and the value of someone's impute really should be judged on it's own merit regardless of how long they have been around, because we all have good and bad days and good and bad soap boxes we can get on, it's the nature of a forum like this, you have to take everything with a grain of salt. I just try and keep an open mind and share what I can and not take it all too seriously.
